Water Polo Hosts NA Tiger Classic

The North Allegheny water polo teams hosted multiple teams over the weekend for the NA Tiger Classic on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the boys’ water polo squad took down Governor Mifflin 22-10, with the first 18 Tigers goals coming in the first quarter. Tabari Morgan led the way, scoring 6 goals and adding four assists. Callan Bunger had six markers and three assists as well. Filip Malezanov tallied three goals, two assists and led the team with three steals. Gannon Brooks made four saves and Mike Stefanko had two stops.

The girls’ team fell to Governor Mifflin on Friday, 14-3. The Lady Tigers battled with Bella Spino leading with two goals, three steals and a field block, while Mikaela Dassanaike added 1 goal and 2 assists. Katherine Vales had five saves in net.

The teams had two games on Saturday, the first matchup in the afternoon against Reading. The boys’ squad won 16-11. Many newcomers gained valuable experience during the game. Multiple hat tricks were scored, including Max LaFuria, Noah Cochrane, Ekagra Sanan and Siddh Kapil. Philip Liulias and Nathan Hilbert scored twice while Hilbert led the team in steals with three.

The girls’ program took a 9-7 over Reading, with Spino again leading the way, notching six goals. Dassanaike recorded a hat trick, while Vales made nine saves and had four assists.
The Tigers faced Cumberland Valley in the final match of the classic Saturday evening. The boys won 21-10. Bunger led the offense with nine goals. Morgan had eight of his own, while Malezanov led the team with five steals and Stefanko made 11 saves.
CV took the win in the girls’ match 21-6. Spino led the Tigers with four goals, four steals and two assists. Dassanaike added two more scores. Vales made seven saves while freshman Myra Anand made her debut in goal with a save.
Both teams travel east next weekend to play in the Beast of East Tournament at Wissahickon and Wilson High Schools.
