Tigers defeat North Catholic in five-set thriller in battle for first place
North Allegheny took the short trip to North Catholic on Tuesday night to take on the Trojanettes in a Section 2-4A battle. Both teams came into the match with identical 4-0 section records. The Tigers came away with the 3-2 victory by set scores of 25-20, 25-23, 18-25, 23-25 and 18-16 to put themselves alone at the top of the standings after the first half of section play.
Reagan Riordan led the Tigers defensively with 27 digs while Keira Duffy had 15. Duffy also had two aces. Molly Robertson added 23 kills, 10 digs and two aces. Keely McMahon-Regan dished out 51 assists to go along with seven digs and two blocks. Alicia Mokube pitched in 20 kills while Carena Schiller had eight. Catie Cooper had two blocks at the net along with five kills.
North Allegheny improves to 6-2 overall and finishes the first half of section play 5-0. North Catholic falls to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the section. The Tigers return to action on Saturday when they host the NA Invitational starting at 8:30 a.m.
