In a non-section rematch of last season’s 4A semifinal, Peters Township paid a visit to Newman Stadium to take on North Allegheny in a battle of top-ranked teams.

Brynn Busch opened the scoring for Peters Township in the 12th minute. The freshman corralled a through ball down the left wing, and the Tigers’ Jordan Beemer came out to challenge, but Busch chipped the ball underneath her for the game’s first goal.

North Allegheny netted the equalizer on a penalty kick. Luciana Zagacki was fouled from behind on a breakaway in the box. Senior Emma Schupansky took the PK and fired a shot inside the near post to tie the match at 1-1 in the 26th minute.

The score stayed tied until the 48th minute, when Mwende Abai netted the game-winner. The junior ran to a through ball on the left wing, and her left-footed shot tipped off the fingertips of Molly Kubistek inside the far post for a 2-1 lead.

In the battle of two stout defensive units, the Tigers prevailed to hand top-seeded Peters Township (7-1-2) their first loss of the season.

The win for #2 North Allegheny (9-2-2) was their third straight victory. Beemer outdueled the Cincinnati recruit Kubistek in goal to pick up the win. North Allegheny had seven of the game’s eight corners.

With the game-winning goal and her third marker of the season, Abai took home the Wright Automotive Player of the Game Honors.

The Tigers will play three matches in three days as they travel to Allderdice for a Friday afternoon non-section tilt. North Allegheny is at Pine-Richland on Monday night for a big AAAA-3 section matchup between two teams tied for second place with (3-1-1) records. The Rams and Tigers played to a scoreless tie in Wexford on September 8th.
