NAVB escapes Butler with five-set victory
North Allegheny traveled to Butler High School on Tuesday night to take on the Golden Tornado in a section matchup. The Tigers won the first two sets but Butler battled back to force a fifth set. NA would regroup and take the final set to win the match by set scores of 25-19, 25-19, 16-25, 23-25, 15-11. The win also clinched the Tigers’ 11th straight section title.
Molly Robertson led the North Allegheny offense with 23 kills. She also had 11 digs and an ace. Carena Schiller added 14 kills while Alicia Mokube had nine kills to go along with four blocks at the net. Paige Shanahan had five kills and a block. Keely McMahon-Regan had five kills, dished out 46 assists, 12 digs and added a block. Catie Cooper pitched in five kills. Reagan Riordan led the Tigers defensively with 23 digs and added an ace. Dede Alualu had 14 digs and served up three aces.
North Allegheny improves to 11-2 overall and 9-0 in Section 2-4A. Butler falls to 9-8 overall and 2-7 in the section. The Tigers are back in action on Thursday when they host North Catholic in the regular season finale at 7 p.m. This match will be broadcast live on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
