Tigers Stumble in First Loss of Season

The North Allegheny boys’ lacrosse team traveled to State College for a matchup Saturday afternoon at Penn State’s Panzer Field. The Tigers were unable to keep pace offensively with the Warriors and fell 9-6.

After two State College goals to open the contest, North Allegheny cut the lead in half on a marker from sophomore Sawyer Catchen. The Warriors added another goal to start the second stanza, followed by NA’s second goal of the game, scored by senior captain Colt Gibson. State College closed out the first half with two more scores to take a 5-2 lead at the break.

The Warriors extended the lead in the early stages of the second half before back-to-back NA goals from sophomore Evan Wade and senior Johnny Castillo. State College and NA traded goals multiple times to end the contest, with Tiger scores from freshman Brandt Hoffman, assisted by sophomore Charlie Jones and junior Mason Brown, assisted by Castillo.

Sophomore Sam Walters made nine saves in net for the Tigers. Senior Grayson Mowrey had three ground balls and three takeaways. Along with their goals, Wade and Castillo each registered three ground balls. Senior Eddie Scherer also added two ground balls and two takeaways.

North Allegheny falls to 3-1 on the season and continues non-section play from Newman Stadium on Monday. The Tigers host MSLA foe Everest Academy (Canada) at 3:15 p.m. at home. That match will be broadcast on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
