Tigers Down Eagles In Overtime

The North Allegheny boys’ lacrosse team continued its homestand with a Saturday afternoon matchup against St. Edward (OH) at Newman Stadium. It took overtime, but the Tigers came out on top with an 11-10 win.
The Eagles took an early 3-0 lead before the Tigers found life with just over five minutes to play in the opening quarter. Freshman Carter Neiport scored the first NA goal, assisted by sophomore Evan Wade. St. Edward scored three more goals before the stanza came to a close and held a five-goal lead after one.
North Allegheny had the first score of the second period on a goal from junior Mason Brown, assisted by sophomore Charlie Jones. St. Edward tallied another marker to take a 7-2 lead, but NA responded with three goals in a row in the final four minutes of the half. Senior Johnny Castillo scored on a pass from Wade, Neiport netted his second of the game from Castillo and Brown scored for the second time in the contest with 11 seconds on the second quarter clock. The Eagles led 7-5 at the half.
St. Edward found another goal early in the third to take an 8-5 lead, but back-to-back Mason Brown markers made it a one-goal contest. Both teams traded goals in the final two minutes of the stanza, with the Tiger goal from Jones, assisted by senior Colt Gibson. The Eagles had a 9-8 edge through three quarters.
St. Edward scored to open the fourth quarter, and it took some late-period heroics to tie the game back up. Castillo’s second goal of the game was assisted by Jones with just over five minutes to play. In the waning seconds of the game, Wade scored the equalizer with just five seconds left from a Gibson pass.

In overtime, senior Ian Boal was the hero, scoring his first of the season and the game-winner with just 37 seconds left in the extra frame. Boal finished the game with four ground balls and a caused turnover along with the golden goal.
Sophomore Sam Walters earned the win in net for the Tigers, making eight saves. Freshman Nick Cook had eight faceoff wins to pace the Tigers.
Mason Brown led the Tigers with four goals. Castillo finished the day with two goals, an assist and three ground balls. Senior Grayson Mowrey had three ground balls and a turnover.
NA improves to 5-3 overall and continues home action this week. North Allegheny is set to host Fox Chapel on Youth Night from Newman Stadium on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The matchup will be broadcast on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
