Sichak’s Return To Lineup Sparks Tiger Win Over Raiders
By: Jared Barton
For the first time this season, senior Nick Sichak suited up with the boys’ lacrosse team for a game after recovering from an injury over the winter. North Allegheny defeated Seneca Valley in the final section game of the regular season 13-9 in Harmony on Tuesday night.
NA took an early 2-0 lead with goals from freshman Carter Neiport and senior Johnny Castillo. Seneca clapped back with two goals of their own to tie the game before the end of the first period.
Neiport opened the scoring in the second quarter, followed by two Raider goals as Seneca Valley took its first lead of the contest. Sichak and the Tigers responded just about a minute later when the senior fed a pass to sophomore Charlie Jones for the tying goal. NA went on to score three more in a row from sophomore Evan Wade, junior Mason Brown and a hat-trick marker from Neiport. Castillo scored his second of the game, sandwiched in between two late Seneca goals, and the Tigers held an 8-6 edge at the half.
The Raiders tied the game once again to begin the second half, but NA responded. Brown scored his second of the game, followed by the second goal from Wade, assisted by Sichak. Seneca Valley added one last goal before the quarter came to a close, and North Allegheny led 10-9 after three frames.
The Tigers added three insurance markers in the fourth quarter. Castillo netted the hat trick, assisted by senior Colt Gibson. Sichak found the back of the net for the first time this season, and Wade scored a hat trick, assisted by Neiport, who also had a ground ball in the game.
Senior Alex Costa stood strong in net with a 14-save performance. Freshman Cian Gallagher had 10 faceoff wins.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 9-8 overall and 3-2 in section play. The Tigers have a final tune-up at Newman Stadium against Norwin Saturday afternoon before the WPIAL Playoffs.
