Evan Lyon Reaches 100-Goal Plateau, Tigers Roll Raiders

Senior Evan Lyon eclipsed his 100th career goal as the North Allegheny boys’ lacrosse team beat Seneca Valley, 16-6, on Youth Night at Newman Stadium.

Lyon started the scoring for the Tigers in a back-and-forth first quarter less than two minutes into the contest. Sophomore Nick Sichak scored late in the frame to put NA up 2-0, but back-to-back Seneca goals from Dylan Greer and Braden Ketler knotted the game up at two apiece after one frame.

North Allegheny went on to score eight of the nine goals in the second quarter to take command of the contest. Lyon and Sichak added their second markers of the game, and then junior Jacob Clarkson scored on a goal assisted by sophomore Jonathan Castillo. Lyon scored a hat trick goal with just over nine minutes left in the half that officially gave the captain 100 tallies in his career. The NA bench and bleachers erupted with cheers as Lyon achieved the milestone. Juniors Sam Porter and Travis Lamark added goals while Castillo scored his first of two on the night and Lyon added his fourth late in the half. NA led 10-3 after two stanzas.

The sophomores took the spotlight in the third, as Castillo scored followed by three more Sichak markers, who ended with five total goals on the evening. Lyon matched Sichak’s night with five of his own, and senior Adam Flavell tacked on one more with a minute left to play.

Lyon took home Wright Automotive Player of the Game laurels and also fielded four ground balls along with his five goal night. Sichak ended the evening with a game-leading seven points. Castillo had five total points. Sophomore Luke Rohan had a productive night with 14 faceoff wins and six ground balls. Junior Colman Craft had five ground balls and two takeaways.

Senior Logan Lyle had another strong night in goal, making nine saves.

With the win, NA improves to 10-6 overall and 6-1 in section play, clinching at least second place behind Shady Side Academy. NA is back in action on Friday at Western Reserve Academy in the MSLA Tournament with a matchup against Milford at 6:30 p.m.

Tigers Down Indians In Non-Conference Matchup

The North Allegheny Boys Lacrosse team celebrated senior night with a win over Peters Township, 12-4, at Newman Stadium on Monday night.

Sophomore Jonathan Castillo opened the scoring for the Tiger with just under ten minutes left in the first quarter. Indians senior Roman Marino knotted the game up at one in the following minutes. Back-to-back markers from senior Evan Lyon and a late goal from junior Travis Lamark had NA up 4-1 after one stanza.

Peters Township senior Elliott Schratz cut the lead in half early in the second, but Lyon tallied a hat-trick goal 40 seconds later. Indians junior AJ Vasilko responded a minute later with a goal of his own, but NA took control from that point on. Castillo and Lamark added their second goals of the game, while sophomore Luke Rohan controlled a faceoff and scored in seven seconds. NA led 8-3 at halftime.

Lamark scored a hat trick goal to open the second half, sophomore Nick Sichak scored and Lyon added a fourth goal of the night before the Indians could find life again. Sean Marshall added the lone Peters Township score in the fourth frame, and senior Adam Flavell added one more for the Tigers with less than five minutes remaining.

In net, junior Logan Lyle stopped nine shots, while senior Tyler Eyerman made a stop as well.  Junior Coleman Craft had a productive day in the midfield with five groundballs and five takeaways.

Fellow seniors Tyler Ruckel, Nick Palone, Aidan Rabenstein, M.J. Schwemmer, Preston Vissotsk, Luca Scolieri, Jonathan Mowry and Sam Graper were all honored before the game and most contributed to the win on the field.

North Allegheny improves to 9-6 overall and next take on Seneca Valley at home Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.

NA Blanks Butler For 2nd Consecutive Shutout

The North Allegheny boys’ lacrosse team posted its second consecutive shutout on Friday night by blanking the Butler Golden Tornado in Section 2-AAA action. It’s the first time since boys’ lacrosse became a WPIAL-sanctioned sport that the Tigers posted back-to-back shutouts. Senior goalies Logan Lyle and Tyler Eyerman combined for the shutout with five and three saves, respectively.

North Allegheny stormed out of the gates and grabbed an 8-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Sophomores Nick Sichak and Jonathan Castillo led the charge by each notching a hat trick. For Sichak, he reached the 50-point plateau on the season.

Junior Travis Lamark, junior Sam Porter and senior M.J. Schwemmer all tallied two goals apiece. Sophomore Ian Boal, senior Jonathan Mowry and sophomore Jack Dimond also chipped in with one goal each.

Junior Coleman Craft and sophomore Luke Rohan posted a team-high three ground balls apiece. Craft also led the team in takeaways with three. Sophomore Colin Metzger notched his first career takeaway in the victory.

With the win, North Allegheny jumps to 8-6 overall and 5-1 in Section 2-AAA. Butler falls to 1-3 in section play. The Tigers return to action on Monday at 7:30 p.m. against North Hills.

Tigers Blank Dragons, 16-0

The North Allegheny boys’ lacrosse team posted its third consecutive blowout victory on Wednesday evening with a 16-0 whitewash of the Allderdice Dragons in Section 2-AAA action.

The Tigers cruised to a 12-0 lead by halftime and called off the dogs in the second half. In all, nine different players scored goals for the Tigers, including sophomore Nick Sichak and freshman Mason Brown, who each led the way with hat tricks. Senior Evan Lyon, senior Adam Flavell, junior Travis Lamark, and sophomore Jack Dimond all netted two goals apiece. Sophomore Hawke Brian scored his first career goal and was joined on the scoresheet was senior Preston Vissotski, who each tallied one goal each.

Vissotski also led the team in ground balls with four and shared faceoff duties with sophomore Luke Rohan. The tandem of Vissotski and Rohan won 15 draws.

In net, senior Tyler Eyerman and sophomore Alexander Costa shared time and notched the combined shutout with two saves each.

With the win, North Allegheny improves to 7-6 overall and 4-1 in Section 2-AAA. Allderdice remains winless with an 0-5 section mark. The Tigers will visit Butler on Friday night for another road section contest.

NA Hammers Hampton, 14-5

The North Allegheny boys’ lacrosse team rolled to a 14-5 non-section win at Hampton on Tuesday night. It was the sixth win in the last seven games for the Tigers.

North Allegheny jumped out to a 7-2 lead by the end of the first quarter and cruised to the victory. Offensively, senior Evan Lyon led the way with four goals and a pair of assists, and junior Travis Lamark contributed a hat trick and an assist. Junior Sam Porter netted a pair of goals with three assists and sophomore Nick Sichak chipped in with two goals and an assist. Senior M.J. Schwemmer, junior Derek Walker, and sophomore Colt Gibson all tallied one goal each.

On defense, junior Colman Craft posted a team-high nine groundballs and two takeaways. Sophomore FOGO Luke Rohan totaled 10 faceoff wins. In net, the trio of Logan Lyle, Tyler Eyerman, and Alex Costa combined for seven saves.

With the win, North Allegheny improves to 6-6 overall and will return to section play on Wednesday with a visit to Cupples Stadium to face the Allderdice Dragons.
