Cougars Edge Tigers In Non-Section Battle

The North Allegheny boys’ lacrosse team fought hard for a comeback but fell short, losing to the Kiski School 8-7 at Newman Stadium on Monday night in a non-section matchup.

In what was mostly a back-and-forth affair, Kiski drew first blood offensively, scoring in the early stages of the first quarter on a goal from Colby De Mora. Senior Sam Porter netted the first of two goals on the night about a minute later to tie the contest. Charlie Boon gave the Cougars the lead late in the frame.

Sophomore Mason Brown tied the game back up in the second before Santino Giachetti put Kiski back ahead. The Cougars led 3-2 at halftime.

Jacob Petnuch scored on a man-up opportunity to give Kiski the first two-goal advantage of the night. Four minutes later, Porter found the back of the net again. Giachetti scored his second of the game on a man-up chance before senior Colman Craft went to work. Craft accepted a pass from NA senior goalie Logan Lyle after a critical save in net. The Hobart commit made his way quickly into the offensive zone before tossing a high-velocity shot into the back of the net to bring the game back within a goal.  De Mora scored with a minute left to put the Kiski lead back to two.

In the final quarter, the Cougars added two more goals to take the largest lead of the night at 8-4. NA responded with a man-up goal from freshman Charlie Jones, Brown’s second of the game and a goal from junior Colt Gibson. It was too little too late, as the Tigers ran out of time to complete the comeback.

Lyle made multiple saves in net to keep the game close. Porter earned Wright Automotive Player of the Game honors for his control of the offense throughout the contest.

The Tigers fall to 5-6 on the season and are back in action Friday night at home against Butler for Senior Night. Faceoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
