5 Tigers named All-State; Tabari Morgan wins Rookie of the Year

The North Allegheny water polo team saw five Tigers named to the all-state teams, four on the boys side and junior Bella Spino was named third team all-state on the girls side. For the boys, senior Caden Currykosky and junior Mike Stefanko were named first team all-state, freshman Tabari Morgan earned second team honors while junior Callan Bunger was on the third team. Morgan also was named the PA Boys Rookie of the Year.

Currykosky was third on the team in scoring with 44 goals. He also had 17 assists and 38 steals. Currykosky was All-State honorable mention a year ago. He also netted the championship-winning goal in a sudden death fourth overtime to claim the state championship for the Tigers over Upper Dublin.

Stefanko was solid in net for North Allegheny all season finishing with 263 total saves for a save percentage of 60%. He also had 13 assists and 19 steals. He made 16 saves in the state championship game. Stefanko was named to the PA All-Freshman team his ninth grade season.

Morgan had a phenomenal freshman campaign leading the Tigers offensively with 67 goals. He added 29 assists and 37 steals. Morgan was selected for the USA Water Polo Regional All-Star team that trained in Serbia this August and it really helped his game moving to the high school level.

Bunger was NA’s number two scorer finding the back of the net 55 times. He chipped in 17 assists and 23 steals. Bunger is a multi-sport athlete as he also throws javelin for the North Allegheny track and field team. Bunger led North Allegheny with four goals and two assists in the state championship game.

Spino led the North Allegheny girls team in scoring with 76 goals. She also had 16 assists and 56 steals. Spino is a two-time USA Water Polo Academic All-American and was named to the PA All-Freshman team in 2022 during her rookie season.

The boys finished the season with a 19-6 record, were Western Conference Runner-Ups and State Champions. The girls finished with a 10-12 record. Congrats to everyone that made the All-State Teams!
