The North Allegheny girls’ water polo team traveled to North Penn High School on Saturday, attempting to qualify for the state tournament next weekend. The boys’ team already had the second seed in the Western Conference locked up, so the squad held a watch party for the girls’ game back in Wexford.
As the fifth seed, the girls won the early game against #4 Exeter 9-5 and continued in the bracket against #1 Springfield later in the evening, but came up short falling 10-3.
In the first matchup, junior captain Bella Spino led the way with eight goals while forcing four steals. She secured her 100th varsity career goal four scores into the contest. Junior Mikaela Dassanaike had a goal and three steals. Senior Ava Sharar had four assists in the contest and senior Lily Tang led all Tigers with six steals. Junior goalie Katherine Vales made three saves in the opening contest.
In the second game, Tang tallied all three of the Tiger goals while also causing two steals. Spino, Sharar and Dassanaike all recorded two steals against Springfield. Senior captain May Coffman led the team with two assists and produced a steal. Vales made seven saves in the final matchup of the day.
The loss ends the girls’ season with a 10-12 overall record.
