In a rematch of last season’s WPIAL semifinal, Shady Side Academy exacted a measure of revenge over North Allegheny Tuesday evening at Newman Stadium. The Indians jumped out to 4-0 lead in the first half and kept the Tigers at bay throughout the contest, claiming a key Division I, Section 2 road victory.

Up 2-0 in the waning seconds of the first quarter, Shady Side attacker Dan Marous took an impressive long pass from goalie Tucker Gillman, a Georgetown recruit, and found himself behind the Tiger defense. Marous took advantage, burying his first goal of the game.

Not long into the second quarter, Marous tallied another score for the Indians, and unfortunately for the Tigers, the Shady Side attacker was just getting started. When it was all said and done, Marous had accounted for six of the Indians’ nine goals.

North Allegheny did manage to whittle the Shady Side lead down to 5-3 on a Marty Hubert tally with 1:48 left in the third quarter. Seven seconds later, though, Marous responded, finding the back of the net for the first of his three unanswered goals that stretched the Indian advantage to five with less than 11 minutes to play.

Along with Hubert, goal scorers for the Tigers included Kyle Rullan, Alec McGovern, Zach Smith and Stephen Kelleher, who notched two. For his pair of tallies, Kelleher was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

With the loss, North Allegheny falls to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in section play. The Tigers return to action Monday when they travel to Erie to take on McDowell. That contest is slated to get underway at 7 p.m.
