Lady Tigers Claw Past McDowell, 2-1
The North Allegheny Girls Soccer Team opened the 2013 season with a 2-1 victory at Erie McDowell on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Tigers finished off their early chances with first half goals by Lauren Briggs and Alexa Mermigas to grab a 2-1 lead, and used a physical style of play to wear down the Trojans in the second half for a one-goal victory. Mermigas’ goal came on a through ball and assist from Amanda Miller. NA led in corner kicks, 5-1, and outshot McDowell, 10-9, with Tigers goalie Madison Martin making eight saves to preserve the victory.
The Lady Tigers begin the year with a 1-0 overall mark thanks to the non-section win and begin their section schedule with a home section match-up with the Shaler Titans at Newman Stadium. The game will be broadcast live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network with the contest getting underway at 7:30 pm.
