In a battle for the top spot in the section, Shady Side Academy boys’ lacrosse came away with a tight 6-5 victory over North Allegheny Wednesday night. The match was already moved to the middle of the week due to the inclement weather on Tuesday, and the game, which was originally scheduled at the Bulldogs’ home venue, had to be moved to North Allegheny Intermediate High School because of damage in the Fox Chapel area.

Shady Side scored late in the first quarter to take the early lead, but NA responded roughly two and a half minutes later on a goal from junior Nick Sichak, assisted by fellow junior Colt Gibson.

The Tigers broke the tie and took a lead in the game for the first time with about four minutes left in the half. Gibson found a goal of his own, assisted by junior Johnny Castillo. The Bulldogs tied the game with three minutes left in the frame, but the Tigers managed two goals in the last 2:40 to take a 4-2 halftime advantage. NA goals came from senior Jacob Clarkson and sophomore Mason Brown.

Shady Side came out of the second half gate in full force, scoring three straight markers to hold a 5-4 edge heading into the final stanza.

With less than six minutes remaining in the game, Gibson tied the game, assisted by Castillo. Shady Side’s response found the back of the net with just five seconds left in regulation.

Senior Logan Lyle made seven saves in net, while junior Luke Rohan won nine faceoffs and secured three ground balls. Gibson finished with two markers and an assist, Castillo had two assists, Sichak had a goal and four ground balls and Clarkson had two ground balls along with his goal.

NA falls to 7-7 overall and 4-1 in section play. The Tigers are back in action Friday and Saturday in the annual MSCLA Tournament.
