NA Dispatches Dallastown 3-1 to Advance to State Semifinals

The Tigers fell behind the Wildcats, dropping the first set at Altoona High School, before coming back to win three straight sets to post a 3-1 victory (23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-18).

It was an uneven start for both teams in the first set, but both head coach Russ Hoburg and Dallastown’s Jackie Stevens effectively used their timeouts to create runs.

The Tigers trailed 9-5 but ran off six unanswered point to take the lead, The Wildcats timeout stopped the run, The Tigers trailed again but put up another 6-0 run after the second timeout to draw close, but the Wildcats used their final timeout to close out on a 7-0 run to take the first set.

During the second set, North Allegheny trailed 12-9, before Keely McMahon-Regan keyed a run from the service line that saw North Allegheny score 12 of 13 points that led to the set two win.

Set three had the most back and forth action and was tied 18-18, before the Tigers ended on a 7-0 run that was sparked by Jordan Frisco at the service line.

In the final set, the Tigers scored thirteen of the sets final eighteen points to turn a 13-13 tie into a seven point set win and a 3-1 match victory.

North Allegheny was led at the net by Jamie Frisco with 17 kills while Marin Dunaway added 15. Ariana Schiller and Alicia Mokube each finished 4 blocks.

Molly Robertson paced the Tigers with 18 assists, while McMahon-Regan chipped in with 16 helpers.

Defensively, Avery Butcher led the Tigers with 22 digs, while Caleigh Duffy had eight digs and a pair of aces.

Jordan Frisco earned the Wright Automotive Player of the Game honors with her play from the backline. The senior had nine digs and two aces to help North Allegheny improve to (18-1) on the season.

Dallastown, the third place finisher from District 3, finishes at (23-3).

The Tigers now head to the PIAA Girls Volleyball 4A semifinals where they will face Landisville Hempfield. The Black Knights (20-0), the District 3 champions, defeated Canon-McMillan 3-1. The teams will meet Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.
