NA Falls To Shady Side Academy On Senior Night
By Randy Gore
The North Allegheny boys’ lacrosse team dropped an 11-3 decision on Friday night to first-place Shady Side Academy in Section 2-3A action at Newman Stadium.
The visiting Bulldogs controlled the pace and possession for the vast majority of the night, thanks in large part to FOGO and Ithaca College commit, Morgan Bender, leading to the first six goals of the evening for a 6-0 lead. The Tigers cracked the scoreboard on a man-up goal with just 29 seconds left in the first half when sophomore Evan Wade found freshman Carter Neiport cutting to the net for a goal, trimming the deficit to 6-1.
After an extended intermission as a result of a 30-minute lightning delay, senior Johnny Castillo, who recently scored his 100th career goal on April 17, added another to his career tally just 2:45 into the second half to cut the score to 6-2.
Despite NA’s brief momentum, Shady Side rattled off five consecutive goals to put the game away for an 11-2 lead. The Tigers netted the final tally of the night with 2:24 remaining on a marker by senior Jack Dimond, bringing the final score to 11-3, Bulldogs.
Chatham University commit Noah Rosenfeld led the Bulldogs with a game-high five goals, and Denison commit John Poggi added a hat trick.
Prior to the game, a large senior class of 16 players was honored. All 16 were named Wright Automotive Players of the Game, including Dimond, Castillo, Adam Bradley, Alex Costa, Ian Boal, Grayson Mowrey, Nick Sichak, Colt Gibson, Eddie Scherer, Kyle Imm, Jason Adams, Colin Metzger, Hawke Brian, Maddox Susini, Walter Nalducci and Brayden Sowa.
Following the loss, North Allegheny drops to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in Section 2-6A, while Shady Side Academy improves to 7-4 overall and 4-0 in the section. The Tigers will look to snap their four-game losing skid when they visit Greater Latrobe on Monday for a non-section game.
