The North Allegheny boys’ volleyball team topped the visiting Pine-Richland Rams on Tuesday night for a 3-0 section sweep at UPMC Court. The Tigers won by set scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-18.

Pine-Richland hung tough in each set, but the Tigers displayed their mettle to outlast the scrappy Rams. Tied 10-10 in set one, NA pulled away for a 25-18 triumph thanks to the powerful swings of Jax Wilhite. The senior outside hitter hammered out six kills in the opening set on his way to a team-high 14 kills. For his efforts, Wilhite was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Match.

In set two, the score was deadlocked, 18-18, before the Tigers again prevailed in the late stages. Coming through in the clutch, Wilhite tallied three kills down the stretch as NA turned in a 25-21 victory. Junior outside hitter Stone Gaertner sparked the offense as well with four kills.

Finishing with 10 kills on the evening, Gaertner helped power the Tigers in set three. Knotted up at 10-10, North Allegheny stayed true to the script and outlasted Pine-Richland, 25-18. Gaertner and Wilhite each totaled four kills in the final set.

Senior middle hitter Varun Kaveti added to the NA attack with nine kills and clogged the middle of the net with a team-best three blocks. Junior Theo Wilkinson punished Pine-Richland with his hard, sinking serves for a team-leading three aces. Freshman Will Robertson and junior Josh Farr notched two aces each. Junior setter Nicolas Carioto tallied 32 assists and junior Ryan Quatman added nine assists. On defense, senior libero Will Hahn posted a team-high 15 digs.

With the win, North Allegheny improves to 4-2 in Section 2-AAA, while Pine-Richland falls to 1-4 in the section. The Tigers will host North Hills on Wednesday night. The match will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
