State College Ousts NA From PIAA Playoffs In Double OT

Posted on:

Playing in its second straight double overtime marathon, North Allegheny fell in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs on Wednesday night, 7-6, to the State College Little Lions. The Tigers leaped to a 5-1 lead in the first half, but State College rallied back and won the game with 3:33 to play in the second overtime.

North Allegheny opened the scoring just 1:15 into the game on a marker by Gavin Hagen for a 1-0 lead.  State College evened the score with 6:40 remaining in the opening stanza before the Tigers rolled off four straight goals. Wes Powell, Kyle Rullan, Dillon Dugan and Teddy Ednaczyk all scored to lift the Tigers to a 5-1 lead with 11 minutes to play before halftime. However, unforced errors by the NA offense prevented the Tigers from sustained offense and State College scored six of the next seven goals, including the game winner in double overtime, to advance to the PIAA quarterfinals.

Faceoff man Zach Smith won 13 of 17 draws and corralled seven ground balls. Senior Zech Nachazel hauled in seven ground balls to help keep NA in possession. Goalie Will Rahenkamp was tough in net with 15 saves.

North Allegheny finishes the season with a 15-5 record.  Congratulations to Coach John Rullan and the Tigers for a terrific season.
