Tigers Best Butler For Section Win, 3-0
Behind an impeccable hitting display from senior Nikola Topich, and a sterling night from senior setter Jeremy Best, the North Allegheny boys’ volleyball team earned its first section win of the season with a 3-0 sweep of the Butler Golden Tornado on Tuesday night. Topich notched a career-high 15 kills and hammered the Golden Tornado with a phenomenal hitting display. Topich posted a hitting percentage of .636 to spur on the Tigers toward set wins of 25-17, 25-20 and 26-24.
Topich wasn’t the only Tiger with a career night. Best dished out a career-high 43 assists to setup teammates Canyon Tuman and Robert Stiefvater who peppered Butler with 10 kills apiece. Defensively, Ethan DeRubbo came through with nine digs and was helped out by Best who collected eight digs. Best added six block assists as well in a superb all-around performance.
North Allegheny improves to 1-2 overall and in Section 2-AAA, while Butler slips to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in section play. The Tigers will host Pine-Richland on Tuesday, April 7 in a match that will be broadcast live on the North Allegheny Sports Network. Start time is slated for 7:00 pm.
