
Tigers Bounce Butler For Important Section Win
North Allegheny took a major step toward solidifying a playoff spot in Section 2-AAA with a 3-0 sweep of the Butler Golden Tornado on Thursday night. The Golden Tornado entered the game in fourth place and just a game back of the third place Tigers, but had its playoff hopes suffer a significant blow with the loss. With three more section matches remaining North Allegheny hasn’t yet clinched a playoff spot but certainly came a step closer by beating Butler by set scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-19.
Senior MB Robert Steifvater led North Allegheny with 10 kills and stuffed the Golden Tornado with four block assists. Setter Jeremy Best not only dished out 36 assists but posted a team-high six block assists and added 11 digs. Senior Ethan DeRubbo notched a team-best 12 digs on defense.
North Allegheny improves to 6-4 overall and 5-4 in Section 2. Butler slips to 5-5 overall and 3-5 in section play. The Tigers host the Norwin Knights on Monday night in a rematch of last year’s WPIAL championship. The match will be broadcast live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
