
Tigers claim runner-up at York Invitational
North Allegheny traveled east to Central York High School to take part in the prestigious York Invitational on Saturday. In a field littered with state-ranked teams, the Tigers played well on the day and ultimately fell in the tournament final to claim second place.
North Allegheny went 7-1 in a pool comprised of Northeastern, Manheim Central, Warwick and Carlisle to take first place in Pool B. In bracket play, NA defeated Northern York 25-17 in the round of 16, second-ranked Central York 25-15 in the quarterfinals, fourth-ranked Cedar Crest 25-15 in the semifinals, before falling to top-ranked Cumberland Valley 20-25 and 21-25 in the championship match.
Will Robertson led North Allegheny with 36 kills on the day. Brendan Moore had 25 kills, Peter Bratich had 18 while Matthew LaMay and Garen White each had 13. LaMay had 10 aces on the day from the service line while Elliot Swierczynski added six. Robertson had 40 digs defensively for the Tigers while Emmett Morris had 33. Elijah Braun and Jackson Failla each had 19 while LaMay helped with 18. Moore led the way at the net with eight blocks. White and Bratich each had seven while Nathan May had four. Swierczynski dished out 58 assists while Failla had 48 helpers.
Robertson and LaMay were named to the York Invitational All-Tournament team.
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday when they host Penn-Trafford in non-section action at 7 p.m. This game will be broadcast live on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
