Tigers Host McDowell, Fairview In Competitive Home Meet

The North Allegheny water polo team returned to the pool on Saturday for a home date with McDowell and Fairview at the Olympic Swim and Health Club. The NA Boys fell in their only matchup on the day with McDowell, 12-9, in overtime. The Lady Tigers earned a split in their two contests, defeating Fairview by a 15-3 decision and dropping an 8-6 contest to McDowell.

The convincing win over Fairview was the first game of the day for the Lady Tigers. NA stormed out of the gates for a 9-1 lead by halftime and controlled the contest throughout. Offensively, the Tigers were led by Emma Halle and Rebecca Melanson with eight and seven goals, respectively. Junior Anna Kegel contributed to the offensive barrage with a team-high three assists, followed by senior captain Marissa Dorman with a pair of assists. Melanson also tallied a team-best seven steals on defense. In net, junior Hannah Ziegler reeled in 12 saves in the victory.

Looking to build off their win in the opener, the Lady Tigers concluded the day with a hard-fought contest against McDowell but the Trojans staved off NA for an 8-6 win. North Allegheny was paced by Melanson with four goals and a pair of steals. Halle and Dorman chipped in with one goal each. Ziegler made 11 saves.

The North Allegheny boys’ team also played in an exciting contest against McDowell and was narrowly defeated, 12-9, in overtime. The Tigers offensive leader was senior captain David Lomakin with a team-best four goals. Sophomore Ben Gavran netted a pair of goals, while Keller Sens, Sean McClellan and Asher Jones tallied one marker each. Defensively, Gavran and Ethan Berty each grabbed a team-high three steals. The goalie duties were once again split by Eliot Maravich and Justin Morrison, who combined for eight saves.

On the season, the North Allegheny boys’ team sits at 2-1 overall. The Lady Tigers are also 2-1 on the campaign. Both teams return to action on Tuesday night for a rematch with McDowell in Erie.
