Tigers Outlast Pennsbury for State Championship, 3-1
The North Allegheny Boys Volleyball Team has captured a state championship with a 3-1 victory over Pennsbury Saturday afternoon at Penn State University. North Allegheny reached the PIAA Championship two years ago and fell narrowly shy to Central York, but the Tigers were not to be denied this time around with set scores of 25-18, 25-23, 23-25 and 25-18. The state championship for the Boys Volleyball Team gives the North Allegheny Athletics program its fourth state crown in the 2012-13 sports season.
WPIAL Most Valuable Player Tommy Keisling hammered Pennsbury with a team-high 21 kills, adding 10 digs and four blocks. Senior Alex Glisan and junior Brendan Brown stuffed the middle of the net with a combined 19.5 blocks. Senior libero Suyash Fulay covered every inch of the PSU gymnasium with 20 digs, helped by Joe Murphy who posted 13 digs. Murphy also set up the Tigers big swings with an outstanding 48 assists.
North Allegheny finishes the season with a perfect 21-0 record. Congratulations to the Tigers players and coaches on a terrific season and state championship.
