Tigers Rally To Sink Black Knights, Move On To PIAA Championship

In a thriller at Altoona High School, the North Allegheny Tigers toppled the Hempfield Black Knights on Tuesday night in the PIAA semifinals, 3-2. The reigning PIAA champs rallied from a 2-0 set deficit by taking the next three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-14 and 15-10.

Leading the charge was senior David Haus with a team-high 24 kills and senior Mitch Higgins with 18 kills.  Brendan Brown added 10 kills and posted a team-best eight blocks. Setter Antonios Balouris notched 59 assists and 13 digs.  Libero Ethan DeRubbo covered the floor on the defense with 13 digs and David Henderson added 11 digs.

North Allegheny improves to 22-1 on the season and looks for a second straight state title with a meeting against Central York on Saturday at 1:00 pm from University Park. For a look at the PIAA brackets, click here.
