Both Seneca Valley and North Allegheny came into the contest with (6-0) records in 4A Section 1. Each team had not lost a match yet this year as the section slate hit the halfway point.

On the boys’ side, the Tigers and Raiders met for the top spot in the section last night, a match that ended in a 1-1 tie.

The girls changed that script tonight, as North Allegheny netted a pair of second half goals to come away with a 2-0 shutout victory at Newman Stadium.

It was an even played first half, although the Tigers had a 5-1 advantage on corner kicks in the first forty minutes.

Seneca Valley (8-1, 6-1) had a couple of good opportunities in the second half to break the scoreless tie, but it was North Allegheny that found the net first in the 67th minute.

Kieran Shannon picked up a ball at the 18-yard line and her turning shot beat Raiders keeper Mia Humphreys for a 1-0 lead. The goal was the 7th of the season for the freshman.

It didn’t take that long for North Allegheny to get an insurance marker, as the Tigers made it 2-0 eight minutes later.

A through ball found Abigail Stager onside, and the Kentucky recruit blasted a shot underneath the crossbar for her 19th goal of the year. It was also the 50th career goal for her high school career.

The Tigers defense and senior keeper Natalie Rak made the score stand up. For North Allegheny, it was their sixth clean sheet of the season and sixth in seven contests.

Shannon, who notched the game winning goal, was chosen as the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

North Allegheny (10-0, 7-0) visits Shaler next Monday night before returning home to face Pine-Richland next Wednesday. That Senior night match, with a 7:30 kickoff, wlll be broadcast on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
