For the second time this season, North Allegheny and Seneca Valley squared off in a section match. The first game in Harmony ended in a 1-0 win for the Tigers. Tonight’s contest at Newman Stadium followed the same script, with North Allegheny posting another 1-0 win over the Raiders.

North Allegheny had an apparent 1st-half goal waived off, as Kieran Shannon’s shot from the right side appeared to hit the net support over the goal line, but was not ruled a goal, and the game remained scoreless.

Addison Vrabel had a great chance in the 30th minute, but Sydney Postler made a diving save towards the far post and the game was 0-0 at halftime.

The Raiders’ best chance to break the tie came in the 69th minute, but Mylie Libby’s shot off a throw-in hit the post. In the 71st minute, Postler came off her line in a race for a fifty-fifty ball and collided with Bella Montgomery. Postler was shaken up and had to leave the game temporarily. Alexis Koliscak replaced her, and the Tigers got the game’s only goal right after that sequence.

Shannon found a turnover on the left wing, and her right-footed service found a streaking Amari Ruffus in the channel, and her right-footed chip found the net for the game’s only goal. Rosalia Varlotta had a chance from the middle to add some insurance for the Tigers, but her
shot found the far post in the waning minutes.

Jordan Beemer was unofficially credited with 8 saves to earn the win, the ninth clean sheet of the season for North Allegheny (11-2-1, 5-0). The Tigers remain unbeaten in section play, and lengthened their lead over Seneca Valley (7-2- 3, 4-2).

The Wright Automotive Player of the Game award went to Ruffus. The sophomore’s great run and finish off the Shannon cross was her first goal of the year and served as the game winner.

The Tigers have a game in hand on the Raiders, and North Allegheny visits Butler on Wednesday and North Hills next Monday for two section road games in their chase for their sixth section championship in the last 9 seasons.
