In a rematch of last year’s semifinal between Peters Township and North Allegheny, the top-seeded Indians and the #5 Tigers went at it at Dormont Stadium.

Last season, Peters Township ended North Allegheny’s season in overtime. Extra time was not needed this year, and the Tigers exacted some revenge, knocking off the Indians 1-0.

The match was scoreless through the first 40 minutes. Both teams had chances, and the Indians had three of the four corners in the first half. Peters Township pressed the issue in the second half, but the Tigers’ defense and junior goalkeeper Jordan Beemer stood tall.

Both teams needed one opportunity and that came for North Allegheny in the 69th minute. Rosalia Varlotta sent a long through ball down the right wing that was retrieved by Averie Bierker. The Miami of Ohio recruit settled and fired from just inside the sideline, and her shot bounced off the bar and off Molly Kubistek for the game’s only goal.

Peters Township had a couple of chances to equalize, but Beemer made a stop, and the Tigers’ backline persevered the clean sheet, the 13th shutout on the year for North Allegheny.

With the game’s only goal, her 6th of the season, Bierker was the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

With only two teams qualifying for the state playoffs in 4A, Peters Township sees its season end at (15-3-2).

The Tigers are now (16-3-2), and North Allegheny will play in the championship for the third time in four years. North Allegheny won its last title in 2022 with a penalty kick win over Peters Township. In 2023, the Tigers fell in overtime 1-0 to Fox Chapel.

North Allegheny will seek its fourth girls soccer championship against a familiar foe. Seneca Valley, section champions in 4A Section 3, will play the Tigers for the third time this year. The teams split the regular season series. The title match will be held at Highmark
Stadium at a date and time determined.
