The North Allegheny girls’ volleyball team extended its winning streak to 13 in a row on Monday night with a 3-1 victory against Oakland Catholic at UPMC Court. The Tigers earned the non-section win by set scores of 25-11, 25-23, 14-25 and 25-10.

Facing one of the top teams in Class 3A, the six-time reigning PIAA champions in Class 4A rolled to a victory in set one with the help of two kills by senior Rylee Gadomski and three aces from freshman Molly Robertson on their way to an easy 25-11 win.

Set two was a different story, however, as Oakland Catholic built a 19-12 lead. On a night where North Allegheny’s serves kept the Eagles off-balanced, junior Anna Bridges helped spark a comeback with her serves and defense and the Tigers went on a 5-0 run to claw back to within two points at 19-17. With Oakland Catholic leading 23-19 late in the set, North Allegheny staged an exceptional rally by scoring the final six points to steal away game two, 25-23. Senior Elysia Smith powered the comeback offensively with four kills and finished with eight on the night. Senior libero Avery Butcher led the charge down the stretch with three consecutive aces on her way to a team-high five aces. Butcher had a sterling defensive performance as well with 12 digs. Senior Caleigh Duffy contributed to NA’s outstanding passing and defensive effort with three aces of her own.

A back-and-forth affair in the early going of set three, senior Kyra Schmidt tallied three consecutive aces to tie the score at 9-9. Schmidt concluded the evening with four aces and a team-high 14 digs. However, George Washington commit Riley Samuels took over game three with four blocks and a pair of kills to help the Eagles prevail, 25-14.

North Allegheny returned to form in set four, running away for a convincing 25-10 win to close out a 3-1 match victory. Senior Marin Dunaway notched four of her seven kills in the final set.

A consistent offensive source throughout the night, senior Jamie Frisco totaled a team-high 11 kills and was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Match.

Facilitating the NA attack was Robertson and junior Mackenzie Jones, who distributed 18 and 20 assists, respectively.

With the win, North Allegheny leaps to 9-0 overall, while Oakland Catholic slips to 9-3 on the season. The Tigers will visit Butler on Thursday night in a road section matchup.
