On Senior Night, the North Allegheny girls’ volleyball team earned its 11th consecutive victory with a 3-0 sweep of Chartiers Valley on Thursday night at UPMC Court. The top-ranked Class 6A team in the WPIAL prevailed by set scores of 25-14, 25-14 and 25-20.
From the outset, all four seniors made their mark in the non-section contest. Defensive specialist Luana Tripon, had an opportunity to play outside hitter and unleashed some big swings, notching a pair of kills to spark the Tigers in the early going. Without a hitting error and adding six digs on defense, Tripon earned Wright Automotive Player of the Match honors.
Thanks in part to the efforts of Tripon, the Tigers led 8-5 in set one before the serving of Sydney Klaich led a 7-0 run and NA cruised to a 25-14 win. Klaich and senior libero Keira Duffy each notched a pair of aces in the game-one victory. Duffy finished with three aces on the night, to go along with a team-high 17 digs.
Along with Tripon and Duffy, fellow seniors Alicia Mokube and Molly Robertson helped NA control the match for the remainder of the night en route to the 3-0 sweep. Mokube finished with a team-best nine kills and team-high two blocks. Robertson dished out a team-leading 11 assists, while adding three kills and an ace.
Junior outside hitters Ella Lange and Carena Schiller also contributed to the win, each belting out seven kills. Klaich totaled 10 assists, eight digs and a pair of aces. Junior defensive specialist Vivienne Deily-Nelson tallied 10 digs and two aces.
North Allegheny improves to 11-0 on the season, while Chartiers Valley dips to 9-4 overall. The Tigers will take part in the Liberty Tournament on Saturday in Bethlehem, PA, before visiting Peters Township on Tuesday.
