To listen to a replay of the game, click here!

The Lady Tigers made 14 of 14 foul shots in the fourth quarter as they defeated Shaler, 59-41, at the Senior High gym on Friday night.  Senior Stephanie Wolf led the way with 18 points, including 12 of 13 from the line, while junior Rachel Divosevic added 12 for the winning Lady Tigers.  Julianne Harris netted 12 points to pace the Titans.

Sophomore Kristen Beatty cored early to give NA an early 2-0 first quarter lead.  After Harris made one of two from the line, Divosevic hit a long jumper to make it a 4-1 NA advantage.  Beatty's foul shot pushed it to 5-1 before Harris hit a trey to cut it to 5-4.  Divosevic scored again from long range, but Erin Staniski answered with a trey to tie the score at 7-7.  Divosevic followed with two foul shots to give the Lady Tigers a 9-7 lead, and NA never trailed after this point.  DiNucci made one of two from the stripe, but Wolf drove for a basket to increase the lead to 11-8.  Wolf again drove to the basket and was fouled with just 1.8 seconds remaining.  The Tiger senior made both free throws and NA took a 13-8 lead after one quarter.

After DiNucci made a pair of foul shots, senior Nicole Dudas hit a trey from the corner to give NA a 16-10 lead early in the second quarter.  Junior Libby Soeder came back to score two quick baskets to cut the margin to 16-14 midway through the quarter.  Wolf answered with three of four from the line as NA led, 19-15, with 2:08 remaining in the half.  Beatty was fouled on a rebound attempt and made one of two, and Divosevic scored on a put back to push the lead to 22-15 with just 14 seconds left.  After Soeder made two free throws, senior Laura Casey made an acrobatic driving layup at the buzzer to give the Lady Tigers a 24-17 lead at the intermission.

Neither team could score early in the third quarter, but the Lady Tigers broke through with five straight points to take a 29-17 lead at the 4:35 mark.  A basket by Beatty and a hoop and foul shot by Wolf put NA up by twelve.  Shaler then rallied to score ten straight points.  A hoop by Harris, a three-point play by sophomore Melissa McQuade, another three-point play by senior Allason Holt, and two more free throws by McQuade brought Shaler to within two at 29-17 with 2:57 remaining in the period.  The Lady Tigers regrouped, however, with senior Cara Davies hitting a long triple from the corner, and Beatty scoring from under the basket to push the lead back to 34-27.  After DeNucci hit her first basket of the night with 54 seconds remaining, Wolf answered to give the Lady Tigers a 36-29 lead going into the final period.

Wolf opened the scoring in the fourth quarter with a pair of foul shots just 30 seconds into the period, but Holt came back with a short jumper to make it 38-31.  Harris then scored and DiNucci dropped in a pair of foul shots to bring Shaler to within three at 38-35 with 6:11 remaining.  Casey then drove the right side and made a twisting bank shot to push the lead to 40-35.  Divosevic followed with a pair of foul shots, and Dudas hit her second trey of the night to push the NA lead to 45-35 with 3:13 left in the game.  For the remainder of the period, Shaler was forced to foul, and the Lady Tigers responded by making foul shots.  Down the stretch, Wolf hit four straight, senior Rebecca Mapel added four in a row, and Casey dropped in two more as the Lady Tigers took control of the game in the final minutes.  Harris was able to add a pair of field goals, but senior Kate Winland put the finishing touches on the victory with a driving layup with just 16 seconds remaining.  The Lady Tigers won going away, 59-41.

It was a big section victory for NA as they kept their composure with the game on the line in the fourth quarter.  Good passing, coupled with excellent foul shooting, held off the late Shaler rally.  For her efforts, the North Allegheny Sports Network selected Stephanie Wolf as the Player of the Game.

With the win, NA improved their section record to 6-4, the overall mark to 12-8 on the season.  The Lady Tigers will be on the road on Monday when they travel to Seneca Valley for a 7:30 pm section contest.  Seneca edged NA, 44-42, earlier in the season.

Defense was the name of the game and it showed from the outset.  Neither team was able to convert a field goal until 3:11 remained in the quarter.  Junior Stephanie Wolf made one of two foul shots just eight seconds into the game as the Lady Tigers took a 1-0 lead.  6-1 sophomore Amanda Johnson hit two free throws to put Seneca Valley ahead, 2-1, at the 5:38 mark and added another foul shot a minute later to make it 3-1.  Senior Kate Winland hit a long jumper at the 3:11 mark to tie the game at 3-3.  After Johnson dropped in a short jumper, senior Nicole Dudas drained a trey to give NA a 6-5 advantage at the 2:04 mark.  Senior Bridget Rectenwald got loose under the basket and increased the lead to 8-5.  Chelsey Pavlick cut the lead to 8-7 with 19 seconds remaining but the Lady Tigers still led, 8-7, after one quarter.

The second quarter belonged the Raiders.  Amanda Johnson gave Seneca the lead with a long three 1:50 into the period.  Junior Ashley Turici scored from under the hoop to push the margin to 12-8.  Divosevic hit a baseline jumper for her first basket to cut the margin to 12-10 at the 5:12 mark.  Mangola answered with a triple but Divosevic came back with a layup and a foul shot as NA crept closer at 15-13.  Seneca then went on a 14-6 run to close out the half.  Mangola's two foul shots and a three-pointer by Kelsey Spencer increased the lead to 20-13.  After Divosevic converted a pair of foul shots, Laura Ness also hit two free throws to make it 22-15.  Divosevic answered again with a baseline shot, but Spencer hit her second trey to push the lead to 25-17.  Mapel drove the lane for a basket to cut it to 25-19.  Baskets by Ness and Mangola in the last minute pushed the margin to 29-19 at halftime.

The Lady Tigers came up aggressively in the third quarter and began to cut into the Raider lead.  After Mangola scored just 52 seconds into the period to increase the lead to 12 points, Divosevic hit a fadeaway jumper and Mapel drove for a layup and a foul shot to cut the lead to 31-24.  Mangola scored again, but Wolf answered to cut the lead to 33-26 with 4:40 remaining.  After a foul shot by Amanda Johnson, Wolf scored again to make it 34-28.  Divosevic scored from under the basket and added a foul shot to cut the lead to 34-31 before Mangola pushed it back to 36-31 at the 1:40 mark.  The Lady Tigers would not be denied, however, as senior Laura Casey scored on a fast break, and Dudas hit a long trey and suddenly the game was tied at 36-36 with 28 seconds remaining in the quarter.  Val Johnson's two free throws with 15 seconds left gave Seneca a 38-36 advantage going into the last quarter.

Both teams turned up the defense in the final quarter and scoring was at a premium.  Chelsey Pavlick scored 31 seconds into the period as the Raiders took a 40-36 lead.  After Divosevic made two free throws, Mapel converted one of two from the line to cut it to 40-39 at the 6:18 mark.  Neither team could score until 1:15 remained in the game.  Wolf was fouled and made the first shot.  There was an error on the foul, however, as Turici fouled out of the game but was not asked to leave.  The officials made the correction but took the foul shot away.  Wolf still had two free throws, but missed the first and made the second to tie the game at 40-40.  After a defensive stop, Mapel put NA ahead for the first time since the first quarter, 42-40.  With 44 seconds left, Mangola drew a foul and converted both to tie the game at 42-42.  Another defensive stop gave the ball back to NA with 10 seconds left.  A turnover gave it back to the Raiders with 3.6 left on the clock.  After a time out, Seneca was able to send a long pass to Amanda Johnson beyond the three-point line.  She turned and found Mangola open under the basket, and the Seneca junior laid it in to win the game for the Raiders, 44-42.

It was a tough loss for the Lady Tigers who battled valiantly from behind to take a late lead.  For her efforts, the North Allegheny Sports Network selected Rebecca Mapel as the Player of the Game.  The loss dropped the NA record to 1-2 in section play, 3-4 overall.  The Lady Tigers will play in the Naples Tournament over the winter vacation.  Play gets under way on Thursday, December 30, and concludes on Monday, January 3.

After senior Laura Casey scored on a driving layup, the 'Canes came back to cut the lead to 13-12 behind Sams' two foul shots and a layup by Micaletti.  Divosevic hit a short banker to push the margin to 15-12 at the 4:10 mark.  Six-foot freshman Logan Hartman came off the bench and scored on a put back to cut the lead to 15-14 and Sams gave the 'Canes the lead at 16-15 with a short jumper.  Wallace pushed the lead to 18-15 with a shot from the baseline, but senior Stephanie Wolf cut the lead to one with a pair of free throws.  After Micaletti dropped in one of two from the line, Wolf tied the game at 19-19 with just eight seconds remaining.  The Lady Tigers blocked a last second shot and the teams went to the intermission tied at 19-19.

The third quarter was a see saw defensive affair.  Dudas hit a trey just 46 seconds into the period to give NA a 22-19 lead.  Micaletti came back to score on a driving layup and Wallace added a putback to put the Lady 'Canes on top, 23-22.  After Micaletti scored again, Divosevic answered with a shot off the glass to cut the lead to one at 25-24.  After Sams got loose for a short bank shot, senior Kate Winland battled for a rebound and put back her own shot to cut the lead to 27-26.  Micaletti came back with her third basket of the quarter to up the lead to three again at 29-26.  With just nine seconds left in the quarter, Winland dropped in a long bomb to tie the game at 29-29 as the quarter ended.

Wallace opened the fourth quarter scoring just 12 seconds into the period when she converted a pass from Sams and added a foul shot to give NC a 32-29 advantage.  New Castle would not trail again, but the Lady Tigers battled to stay close.  Dudas cut the lead to one at 32-31, but Wallace scored again to make it 34-31.  Winland hit a pair of free throws to cut it to 34-33, but New Castle went on a 10-2 run to take control of the game.  After Divosevic made one of two from the line, Sams hit a pair of hoops and Hartman dropped in a short baseline jumper to increase the lead to 42-34.  Senior Rebecca Mapel made a foul shot to cut it 42-35, but Sams answered with a short jumper to push it to 44-35 with just 3:25 remaining.  At this point, New Castle Coach LuAnn Grabowski put her team into a delay game.  The Tigers stole the ball and Divosevic scored to cut the lead to 44-37 with 2:25 left.  The Tigers were forced to foul and Sams converted one of two from the line.  Casey got fouled on a rebound attempted and dropped in a pair of free throws to cut the margin to 45-39 with 42.3 on the clock.  Sams two foul shots pushed it to 47-39 before Wolf converted one of two to make it 47-40 with 38.2 seconds on the clock.  Micaletti then made three of four free throws to increase the lead to 50-40 with just 12.2 seconds left.  Wolf made a nice move to score just before the final buzzer but New Castle came away with a hard earned 50-42 victory.

It was a defensive struggle all the way.  The Lady Tigers were able to get loose for a number of layups and short jumpers but had trouble getting them to fall.  New Castle gave NA chances by converting only 5 of 15 foul shots in the first three quarters, but down the stretch, the 'Canes made they when it counted dropping in 9 of 12 in the last quarter.  For her efforts, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Rachel Divosevic the Player of the Game.

With the loss, the NA record dropped to 0-1 in section, 1-3 overall.  The Lady Tigers will be back in action again on Friday when they travel to Chartiers Valley for a non-section contest.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
