GAME SUMMARIES

TIGERS EDGE SENECA VALLEY, 4-3

Senior Brandon O'Connor scored a pair of goals to lead the Tigers to a 4-3 victory over Seneca Valley at the RMU-Island Sports Center on Thursday night.  Junior Chris Gilson and sophomore Eric Pelly scored the other NA goals.  Senior Evan Vogini picked up the victory in goal for the Tigers.

O'Connor scored for NA in the first period, but Matt Werth tied the game for Seneca Valley as the teams went to the first intermission tied at 1-1.  Junior Mike Lorish set up O'Connor in the second period to give NA a 2-1 lead.  Gilson scored from junior Mitch Moulton, but Jon Muck answered for the Raiders as the Tigers took a 3-2 advantage after two periods.

In the third period, Kevin Day scored for Seneca, but Pelly got the game winner on an assist from Moulton with just 1:22 remaining as the Tigers came away with the 4-3 victory.  NA outshot Seneca Valley, 38-10, on the night.

The win was the fourth straight for the Tigers and improved their PIRHL mark to 11-1.  NA holds a two-game lead over second-place Allderdice and will face the Dragons on Sunday night.  Game time is scheduled for 5:30 pm at the RMU-Island Sports Center.

TIGERS BLANK SHALER, 12-0

The Tigers exploded for twelve goals on their way to a 12-0 victory over Shaler on Friday night at the RMU-Island Sports Center.  Junior Chris Gilson scored five goals to pace the Tigers with senior Craig Carioto adding three more.  Senior Evan Kirsch scored twice with junior Mike Lorish and senior Brandon O'Connor adding the other NA tallies.

In the first period, Gilson scored from Carioto just 1:39 into the contest to give NA a 1-0 advantage.  Later in the period, Kirsch tallied an unassisted goal to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead after one period.

The Tigers added six more goals in the second period to take control of the contest.  Gilson started things with a goal twelve seconds into the period and Carioto scored his first goal just 43 seconds later to make it a 4-0 game.  Kirsch made it 5-0 at the 12:31 mark, and Gilson followed with his third goal to give NA a 6-0 lead with 10:23 remaining in the period.  Gilson added goal number four at the 2:01 mark, and Lorish closed out the second period scoring with only 13 seconds left.  The Tigers took a commanding 8-0 advantage into the final period.

O'Connor got on the board at the 8:00 minute mark to push the lead to 9-0.  Carioto then scored two straight goals as the Tiger lead ballooned to 11-0 with three minutes left in the game.  Gilson scored his fifth goal to put the finishing touch on a 12-0 Tiger victory.

Senior Evan Vogini was in goal for the Tigers and earned the shutout.  NA outshot Shaler, 30-13, on their way to their tenth victory against only one loss.  The 12-0 victory avenged the only NA loss of the year, a 5-4 decision to Shaler earlier.  The win put the Tigers a game and a half ahead of second place Allderdice.  NA will meet Allderdice in their next game on Sunday, January 30, with game time set for 5:30 pm at the RMU-Island Sports Center.

TIGERS BEAT BETHEL PARK, 4-2, TO MAINTAIN HOLD ON FIRST PLACE

The Tigers defeated the Bethel Park Blackhawks, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Island Sports Center.  Four different Tigers scored goals in the win --- junior Chris Gilson, senior Brandon O'Connor, senior Evan Kirsch, and senior Craig Carioto.  Senior Evan Vogini was in goal for the winning Tigers.

The Tigers jumped off to a 2-0 lead after one period.  Gilson opened the scoring on an assist from Chris Garrett at the 10:13 mark.  O'Connor gave NA a two-goal advantage with an unassisted goal with 8:02 remaining in the period.  Neither team could score in the remaining time and the Tigers went to the first intermission with the 2-0 lead.

Bethel Park came back in the second period to cut the margin to 2-1 as Matt Carrol scored for the Blackhawks.  Kirsch answered on an assist from Gilson with just 48 seconds remaining as the Tigers still held a two-goal lead after two periods.

Carrol scored again at the 5:11 mark of the third period to cut the NA lead to 3-2.  Carioto put the game away with an unassisted goal with 21 seconds left in the game as the Tigers held on to win a hard-earned 4-2 victory.  NA outshot Bethel Park, 27-15, in the contest.

The win improved their record to 9-1 on the season and kept them in first place, one game ahead of second-place Allderdice.  NA will be back in action on Friday night when they meet the Shaler Titans.  Shaler defeated the Tigers, 5-4, in an earlier meeting.  Game time is scheduled for 8:30 pm at the Island Sports Center.

TIGERS RALLY TO EDGE HAMPTON, 5-4

After Hampton took a 4-3 lead in the third period, the Tigers scored twice to capture a 5-4 victory over the Talbots at the RMU-Island Sports Center on Sunday night.  Senior Evan Kirsch tied the game and junior Mitch Moulton scored the game winner with 3:51 remaining to give NA their eighth victory against only one loss.  

Hampton scored the game's first goal when Dan Kearney gave the Talbots a 1-0 lead 4:39 into the contest.  Senior Craig Carioto scored on an assist from senior Brandon O'Connor to tie the game at 1-1 at the 8:24 mark.  Carioto's second goal of the period gave the Tigers a 2-1 advantage at the first intermission.

Junior Mike Lorish increased the lead to 3-1 with an unassisted goal at the 8:05 mark.  Hampton came back, however, to tie the game.  Allen Mueller scored with 6:01 remaining and Evan Szramowski got the equalizer at the 2:38 mark.  The teams went to the second intermission with game tied at 3-3.

Szramowski gave the Talbots their first lead of the game halfway through the period.  With Hampton leading 4-3, Kirsch tied the game at the 5:01 mark on O'Connor's third assist of the game.  With just 3:51 left, Moulton scored the game winner on an assist from junior Chris Korenoski.  The Tigers held on to record a tough 5-4 victory.

Senior goalie Tim Fitzgerald was in the net for the victory as the Tigers outshot Hampton, 28-20.  The win improved the NA record to 8-1 and kept them in first place.  The Tigers will be back in action again on Sunday night when they face Seneca Valley.  Game time is scheduled for 5:30 pm at the RMU-Island Sports Center.

SHALER ENDS NA UNBEATEN STREAK, 5-4

The Shaler Titans edged the Tigers, 5-4, on Sunday night at the RMU-Island Sports Center to end the NA unbeaten streak at seven.  NA tied the game at 3-3 early in the third period, but Shaler came back with two consecutive goals to pick up the victory.  Four different Tigers scored for NA.

Shaler jumped on top in the first period when Kevin Sines scored at the 11:02 mark.  Senior Evan Kirsch picked up an unassisted goal at the 4:35 mark to tie the game at 1-1.  Sines scored again before the end of the period to give the Titans a 2-1 advantage after one period of play.

The Titans increased the margin to 3-1 on an unassisted goal by Brian Hamilton with 7:36 remaining in the period.  Junior Andrew Guntrum narrowed the margin to 3-2 with just 12 seconds remaining in the period.  The period ended with Shaler holding a one-goal advantage.

Senior Brandon O'Connor tied the game just 17 seconds into the third period with an unassisted goal.  The Titans came back, however, with two unanswered goals to take control of the game.  Matt Sebetich gave Shaler a 4-3 lead at the 13:00 minute mark, and Dan Grubic scored the insurance goal on an assist from Sines with 9:55 remaining.  Junior Mike Lorish brought the Tigers within one, 5-4, with two minutes remaining, but NA could get the equalizer.

With the loss, the Tigers record dropped to 7-1, but NA is still in first place with a one game lead over both Allderdice and Bethel Park.  The Tigers will be back in action again on Sunday night when they meet the Hampton Talbots at the RMU-Island Sports Center.  NA defeated Hampton, 10-8, earlier in the year.  Game time is scheduled for 6:30 pm.

TIGERS CONTINUE STREAK WITH 10-8 WIN OVER HAMPTON

Senior Brandon O'Connor and junior Chris Gilson recorded three goals each to lead the Tigers to a 10-8 victory over Hampton at the RMU-Island Sports Center on Saturday night.  Senior Craig Carioto scored twice with juniors Mike Lorish and Mitch Moulton adding single tallies for the winning Tigers.

The Tigers jumped off to a quick 1-0 lead when O'Connell scored at the 11:52 mark.  Hampton answered just 32 seconds later when Dan Kearney scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at 1-1.  Goals by Carioto and O'Connell pushed the NA lead to 3-1 with 5:38 remaining.  Hampton came back to tie the game on goals by Chris Heller and Evan Szramowski with 2:53 left on the first period clock.  Carioto put the Tigers into the lead for good, 4-3, with 1:25 remaining in the period.  NA took the one-goal lead into the first intermission.

In the second period, the Tigers broke the game open with five straight goals.  After Moulton pushed the lead to 5-3 just 1:46 into the period, Gilson scored two consecutive unassisted goals in a minute and four seconds to increase the NA lead to 7-3.  Gilson then set up Carioto at 4:46 mark and came back with his third unassisted goal fifty-one seconds later as the Tiger lead ballooned to 9-3.  Allen Mueller scored for the Talbots at the 2:28 mark, but the Tigers took a commanding 9-4 advantage into the second intermission.

After Kearney opened the third period scoring with an unassisted goal, Lorish answered at the 6:27 mark to make it a 10-5 NA lead.  The Talbots got two goals by Kearney and another by Chris Vogel to make it a 10-8 final.  Senior Tim Fitzgerald picked up the victory in net for the Tigers as NA outshot Hampton, 37-16.

With the victory, the Tigers posted their seventh consecutive victory against no losses as the first half of the season neared its conclusion.  NA has just one game remaining, a makeup of an earlier game with Shaler that has not been rescheduled.

TIGERS TROUNCE BALDWIN, 9-2, TO REMAIN UNBEATEN

The Tigers defeated Baldwin, 9-2, on Saturday night at the RMU-Island Sports Center to win their sixth consecutive game without a loss.  Junior Mike Lorish had three goals and three assists to pace the Tiger victory.  Seniors Craig Carioto and Evan Kirsch had two goals each as NA pounded the Highlanders.

In the first period, Carioto got the Tigers off to a good start scoring on an assist from Lorish just 2:31 into the contest.  Carioto made it 2-0 at the 7:53 mark with Lorish again earning the assist.  Lorish pushed the lead to 3-0 with 4:25 remaining in the period as the Tigers took a three-goal advantage to the first intermission.

Lorish opened the scoring in the second period on an assist from junior Chris Gilson to push the margin to 4-0.  Kirsch scored an unassisted goal before Baldwin got on the board with a goal by Nick Posa at the 8:51 mark to make it a 5-1 NA lead.  Goals by junior Chris Korenoski and Kirsch closed out the second period scoring as the Tigers led 7-1 after two periods.

After Nick Hinsch tallied for Baldwin to cut the lead to 7-2, Lorish completed his hat trick with a goal at the 2:20 mark.  Senior Brandon O'Connor knocked in the final NA goal with just 1:25 left as the Tigers went on to an impressive 9-2 victory.  Senior Evan Vogini was in goal for the Tigers and earned the victory.  NA outshot Baldwin, 37-13, on the evening.

With the victory, the NA record improved to 6-0 and gave them a two-game lead over second-place Allderdice.  The Tigers will meet Hampton on Saturday night in an 8:30 pm contest at the RMU-Island Sports Center.
