LADY TIGERS FINISH SECOND IN WPIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Lady Tigers finished in second place in the WPIAL Championships at Moon Middle School on Saturday.  Moon scored 143.9 to NA's 142.4.  A strong finish on the balance beam gave Moon the title.  Pine-Richland was the third place team.

Junior Sarah Wilson led NA with a 35.675 all-around score good for 9th place.  Junior Linnea Homa posted a 35.30 for 11th place with senior Hannah Snyder next with a 34.850 and 12th place.

In individual scores in the advanced division, sophomore Gillian Carr recorded a 9.55 on vault good for 3rd place, sophomore Kara Stiger a 9.475 and 5th place, and Sarah Wilson a 9.425 and 7th place.  On bars, sophomore Lauren Gabriel and Homa posted a 9.1 good for 5th and 6th places respectively.  On balance beam, Homa took 6th place with an 8.6.  On the floor, Sarah Wilson was sixth with a 9.3 while Homa was 10th with a 9.1.  Junior Leigh Bauer was fourth on bars with a 9.3.

In the intermediate-I division, freshman Brittany Wilson recorded an 8.8 on bars for a 4th place finish.  In the intermediate-II division, freshman Rebecca Fritsch had an 8.95 on floor that took first place.

LADY TIGERS WIN TWO, CAPTURE SECTION TITLE

The Tigers swept both Center and Hopewell on Senior Night on Friday night at Rising Star Gymnastics to wrap up an undefeated season and win the section title.  NA scored a season high of 147.2 to 129.8 for Center and 81.3 for Hopewell.  Leading the way for the Lady Tigers was sophomore Kara Stiger with a 37.7 all-around score followed closely by junior Sarah Wilson with a 37.1.  Freshman Alana Norton was third with a 35.9

Individually, the Lady Tigers posted thirteen scores of 9.0 or better.  Sarah Wilson had a 9.4 on floor, a 9.3 on bars and 9.2s on both vault and beam.  Stiger posted 9.7s on both vault and balance beam along with a 9.6 on floor.  Norton recorded a 9.4 on vault and a 9.1 on bars while junior Linnea Homa had 9.0 on both bars and beam.  Sophomore Lauren Gabriel came through with a 9.2 on bars while freshman Brittany Wilson posted a 9.2 on floor and junior Leigh Bauer recorded a 9.4 on bars.

With the win, NA finished the section with a perfect 10-0 mark.  Next up for the Lady Tigers will be the WPIAL Championships on Saturday, February 9.

LADY TIGERS REMAIN UNBEATEN WITH WINS
OVER BALDWIN AND MONTOUR

The Lady Tigers continued their unbeaten streak with victories over Baldwin and Montour at the Premier gym in Baldwin on Friday night.  NA scored their highest point total of the year with a 145.45 to Baldwin's 140.55 and Montour's 92.2.    Junior Sarah Wilson led the way with a 35.6, followed by freshman Alana Norton with a 35.2 and junior Linnea Homa with a 35.15.

Individually, NA had ten scores of 9.0 or better.  Sophomore Gillian Carr posted a 9.5 on vault and a 9.4 on floor exercises while sophomore Kara Stiger recorded a 9.4 on floor and a 9.2 on balance beam.  Wilson came through with a 9.2 on both beam and floor while sophomore Lauren Gabriel scored a 9.2 on parallel bars and a 9.0 on floor.  Homa had a 9.1 on floor, freshman Brittany Wilson a 9.1 on beam, and Norton a 9.1 on bars.

With the win, NA improved the overall record to 8-0 on the season.  The Lady Tigers will host Center and Hopewell on Friday, January 25, on Senior Night.  The scheduled starting time is set for 7:00 pm at Rising Star Gymnastics.

PINE-RICHLAND, MOON FALL TO LADY TIGERS

The Lady Tigers defeated both Pine-Richland and Moon in a tri-meet at Jewart's Gym on Wednesday night.  NA downed the Rams for the second time in five days by a score of 144.8-142.4.  Moon was third with a 138.1.  Leading NA was sophomore Gillian Carr with an all-around score of 36.4

Junior Sarah Wilson was second in all-around scores with a 35.3 while freshman Alana Norton was third with a 35.1.  Carr's performance was highlighted with a 9.9 in vault.  NA recorded eleven scores of 9.0 or better in earning the victories.  Carr also posted a 9.5 on floor.  Norton scored a 9.5 on vault and a 9.1 on bars while Wilson had a 9.2 on vault and a 9.3 on floor.  Sophomore Kara Stiger recorded a 9.6 on floor, junior Leigh Bauer a 9.3 on bars, sophomore Lauren Gabriel a 9.1 on bars, senior Hannah Snyder a 9.0 on floor, and freshman Eryn McCabe a 9.1 on floor.

With the wins, NA improved their overall record to 6-0 on the season.  Next up for the Lady Tigers is a trip to the Premier Gym in Baldwin to face the Highlanders tomorrow night in a 7:00 pm meet.

LADY TIGERS TAKE TWO WITH VICTORIES OVER
PINE-RICHLAND AND FOX CHAPEL

The Lady Tigers recorded two victories in a tri-meet at Fox Chapel on Friday night.  NA edged rival Pine-Richland, 143.7-142.7 and easily defeated host Fox Chapel, 143.7-122.2.  Sophomore Gillian Carr led the way with an all-around score of 36.1 with sophomore Kara Stiger close behind with a 35.9.  Also helping the NA cause were freshman Alana Norton with a 35.3 and junior Linnea Homa with a 34.9.

In individual events, Stiger led with three scores of 9.0 or above as she posted a 9.5 on beam, a 9.4 on vault and a 9.1 on floor. Senior Hannah Snyder came through with a 9.3 on vault and a 9.0 on floor, Carr recorded a 9.6 on vault and a 9.3 on floor while Norton earned a 9.2 on vault and a 9.1 on bars.  Junior Sarah Wilson posted a 9.1 on vault as NA earned a total of ten scores of 9.0 or better.

With the wins, the Lady Tigers improved their record to 4-0 on the season.  NA will travel to Pine-Richland on Wednesday night for a tri-meet with the host Rams and Moon.  Meet time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.

MONTOUR FALLS TO LADY TIGERS

The Lady Tigers traveled to Montour on Monday night and defeated the Spartans at the All-Star Athletic & Sports Complex.  There was a question over the final Montour score, but NA was the victor with a total of 139.25 points.

In the all-around competition, junior Sarah Wilson led with 34.8 followed by sophomore Kara Stiger with a 34.6 and senior Hannah Snyder with a 34.4.  Sophomore Lauren Gabriel posted the only individual score over 9.0 with a 9.1 on the bars.

The Lady Tigers will not be in action again until after the holidays when they travel to Fox Chapel on Friday, January 4th.  NA will meet Pine-Richland and Fox Chapel in a 6:00 pm section meet.

LADY TIGERS DOWN MOON, 142.10-137.15

The Lady Tigers successfully opened their 2007-08 season with a 142.10-137.15 victory at Moon on Monday night.  The victory continued an unbeaten streak in regular season competition from last season when NA did not lose a meet.

Sophomore Kara Stiger led the way with a 36.35 in all-around followed by junior Sarah Wilson with a 35.05 and sophomore Hannah Nellis with a 34.85.  In individual scores, Stiger posted a 9.45 in vault, 9.2 on floor, and 9.1 on bars.   Wilson recorded a 9.15 on vault and a 9.4 on bars while sophomore Lauren Gabriel had a 9.35 on vault and a 9.2 on bars.  Sophomore Gillian Carr added a 9.25 on vault, junior Linnea Homa a 9.2 on floor, and senior Hannah Snyder a 9.0 on vault.

The Lady Tigers will travel to Montour on Monday night for a section meet.  The scheduled starting time is set for 7:00 pm.

2007-08 WPIAL GIRLS' GYMNASTICS

The Lady Tigers will compete again in the WPIAL along with seven other teams.  WPIAL competition will begin on December 6, 2007 and must be completed according to the schedule.  The WPIAL individual championship will be held on February 9, 2008, at Moon Middle School.  The individual championship is open to all competitors who have achieved the qualifying scores as posted on the WPIAL website (www.wpial.org).  All individual qualifying scores for members of teams entered in the WPIAL program must be earned in a regular scheduled meet in which their team competes.  No team member can compete as an individual at another school for a qualifying score.

Students who participate as an individual or as a member of a team in a gymnastic program other than that of her school while she is participating for the school team shall be ineligible to take part in the WPIAL championship events unless she has been in uniform and available to participate as a member of her school team for at least 75 percent of the contests beginning with the team's first interscholastic contest of the regular season.

In all dual meets a team may enter five competitors for each event, but only the scores of four of them can count toward the final score of the meet.

A.  Dual meets with one competition event at a time, alternating competition style will be used, with one exhibition routine per team per event being permitted.

B.  Dual meets with two competition events running simultaneously, block style competition will be used, with up to five exhibition routines per team per events being permitted.

C.  Tri meets will have two competition events running simultaneously, block style competition will be used, with up to two exhibition routines per team per event being permitted.

The Official National Federation rule book states that the Olympic order of events be followed, that the home team must compete first on vault and beam.
