TIGERS MISS MEDALS AT INDOOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Meet Results (NA only)

Five NA athletes competed in the PTFCA Indoor Championships at Penn State on Saturday.  None of the Tiger athletes achieved medal status in the meet.  Senior Justin Taylor finished in 13th place in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:58.70 with senior Matt Jacob close behind in 14th place.  Sophomore David Humphrey came in 18th in the triple jump with a distance of 42'9.5".

In girls' competition, senior Kelly Carioto place 14th in the shot put with a throw of 36'2.25".  Junior Cody McCoy ran a 9.40 to qualify for the semifinals in the 60 meter hurdles but did not make it to the finals.

FIVE TIGERS QUALIFY FOR INDOOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Five Tigers qualified for the indoor state championships thanks to their performances in the TSTCA Indoor Championships at Robert Morris University on Saturday.  Junior Cody McCoy ran an 8.65 to finish second in the 55 meter hurdles.  Seniors Justin Taylor, 4th with a 8:54.81, and Matt Jacob, 6th with a 9:10.69, in the 3000 meters both met qualifying standards.  Sophomore David Humphrey leaped 43'3" in the triple jump to take second and qualify.  Senior Kelly Carioto was 5th in the shot put with a distance of 38'5" that also met the state qualifying distance.

A number of other Tigers performed well at the championships but did not qualify for states.  In girls' competition, senior Cecily Sunday tied for first and Kayla Starta was tied for 8th in the pole vault.  The girls' 4x200 relay team was third.  For the boys, junior Matt Machiko was seventh in the 55 meter hurdles while junior Will Appman took 13th in the 800 meters.  The 4x800 meter relay team was fifth while the 4x400 team finished in sixth place.  In the mile run, senior Dan O'Brien came in 5th and Eric Balaban was 7th.  Ali Ayyash captured 7th in the pole vault.

The five Tiger qualifiers will compete in the PTFCA Indoor State Championships at Penn State on Saturday, March 1  The scheduled starting time is set for 10:30 am.

JACOB, CARIOTO QUALIFY FOR STATE MEET

Meet Results

Senior Matt Jacob finished second in the 3000 meters while senior Kelly Carioto took fourth in the shot put at the fourth TSTCA indoor meet of the season at Slippery Rock on Friday.  Both Jacob and Carioto qualified for the state indoor championships.  Jacob ran a 9:05.0 while Carioto's distance in the shot was 38' 4 1/2".

In boys' events, also in the 3000, senior Justin Taylor finished 5th and senior Dan O'Brien was seventh.  The 4x800 relay team took second while the 4x400 relay squad finished in third place.  In field events, sophomore David Humphrey finished fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 41' 8 1/4".

In girls' events, junior Cody McCoy ran a 1:04.3 in the 400 to finish in third place while senior Cecily Sunday took second in the pole vault with a height of 9'9".

The next event will be held at the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday, February 8.  Events will be held at both the Fitzgerald Field House and the Cost Center.  The starting times are set for 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm.

TAYLOR SECOND IN 1600 AT TSTCA MEET AT SLIPPERY ROCK

Meet Results

Senior Justin Taylor ran a 4:43.9 to take second place in the 1600 meters at the third TSTCA indoor meet of the season at Slippery Rock on Friday.  Sophomore David Humphrey took third in the triple jump with a leap of 41'11 1/2".  Junior Will Appman came in 8th in the 1600 as did junior Matt Machiko in the 55 meter hurdles.  Two NA relay teams captured third places --- the distance medley team and the 4x400 meter team.

In girls' events, junior Cody McCoy was third in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.8.  The girls' 4x200 meter relay team also finished in third place.

The next TSTCA meet will be held on Friday, again at Slippery Rock University.  The starting time is scheduled for 4:00 pm.

CARIOTO, HONSEH TAKE SECOND AND THIRD IN SHOT PUT

Meet Results

Senior Kelly Carioto placed second and Anica Honseh third at the second TSTCA indoor meet of the season at the University of Pittsburgh on Thursday.  Carioto’s toss went 35’11” while Honseh was just behind with a 33’1 ˝”.  Junior Cody McCoy finished fourth in the 60 meter hurdles while Jen Knight came in eighth in the long jump.

For the boys, Gavin Valpe took third in the shot with a throw of 42’6 ˝ “with Marcus Hambrick taking eighth in the event.  Matt Jacob had a fourth place in the 3000 meters while Justin Taylor was fifth and Will Appman eighth.  Matt Machiko placed fifth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.9.

The next TSTCA meet will be held on Friday at Slippery Rock University with the starting time scheduled for 4:00 pm.

2008 INDOOR SEASON OPENS WITH MEET AT PITT

Meet Results

The 2008 indoor track and field season officially opened last Saturday with a meet at the University of Pittsburgh.  NA was represented by a number of athletes and did earn some placings.

In girls' events, Anica Houser finished sixth in the shot put with a toss of 31'1.5".  In the long jump, Cecily Sunday finished in a tie for sixth place with a leap of 14'8".  In the 4.220 yard relay, the Tiger team was seventh.

In boys' events, Ali Ayyash was fourth in the pole vault with a height of 10'0".  In the long jump, David Humphrey came in 8th with a distance of 18'10".  The NA 4 x 880 yard relay team finished fourth with a time of 9:02.1.

The next competition will be on Thursday at the University of Pittsburgh.  The TSCTA will sponsor events at both the Fitzgerald Field House and the Cost Center with field events starting at 5:30 pm and running events at 7:00 pm.
