TIGERS RALLY TO TIE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES AT 1-1

After losing the opening game of the PIRHL championship series, 6-4, on Saturday afternoon, the Tigers rallied from a three-goal deficit on Sunday to defeat Shaler, 9-6, to tie the series at 1-1.  Steve Leibhart and Dylan Rohar both posted three-goal hat tricks at Bladerunners in Harmarville for the winning Tigers.  Shaler had taken a 5-2 lead after one period before the Tigers rallied for the victory.

Shaler jumped off to an early 2-0 lead before Dan Leibhart scored on a Tim Murphy assist to cut the margin to 2-1.  Shaler extended the margin to 3-1 on a power play goal before Dan Leibhart answered again on a Murphy assist to make it a 3-2 game.  The Titans scored two more goals, one shorthanded, before the period ended to take a 5-2 advantage going into the second period.

Early in the second period, Steve Leibhart netted his first goal on an assist from Rohar to cut the lead to 5-3.  Steve Leibhart scored again to make it a one goal game.  Shaler came back to extend the margin to 6-4 after two periods of play.

The Tigers exploded in the final period to score five goals and secured the victory.  Rohar's second goal with Niko Kovacevic assisting narrowed the margin to 6-5, and Cody Burdwood sent a slapshot home with 10:30 remaining to tie the game at 6-6.  Kovacevic scored an apparent go ahead goal, but the officials waved it off stating that the whistle had blown to stop play.  The Tigers were not to be denied, however, as Rohar scored shortly after the ensuing faceoff to put NA on top, 7-6.  NA then had to kill off a full two-minute two-man disadvantage with Rohar and Burdwood and goalie Brian Schick combining to shut down Shaler.  During the penalty killing, the Tigers added a pair of empty net goals to secure the victory with Rohar and  Steve Leibhart scoring their third goals of the game.

With the win, NA evened the final series at a game each.  The final and championship game will be played at the RMU-Island Sports Center on Sunday night with game time scheduled for 7:30 pm.
