To listen to a replay of the match, click here!

Senior OH Leeanne Haus recorded 23 kills, including ten in the final game, to lead the Lady Tigers to a 3-1 victory over Seneca Valley in a key section match at the Senior High gym on Wednesday night.  NA won the first two games, 25-23 and 25-22, but the Raiders came back to win game three, 25-14.  In the fourth game, the Lady Tigers scored the last ten points to post a 25-15 victory and win the match.

Game one was close throughout with neither team gaining more than a two-point lead.  After Kelly Treser opened the scoring for Seneca Valley with a kill, an NA hitting error gave the Raiders a 2-0 lead.  After a SV hitting error, junior MB Kelly Pernell went down the middle to tie the game at 2-2.  With the Raiders up 3-2, junior MB Kassie Freyermuth scored off a quick set to tie the game, and another hitting error by the Raiders put NA on top for the first time at 4-3.  Kills by Haus and senior OH Kaitlin Bradshaw pushed the lead to 6-4 before Seneca came back to tie the game at 6-6 on a cross court hit by Sarah Metarko.  After NA was called for a net violation, Meghan Drambel served an ace to make it an 8-6 SV lead.  A kill and service ace by Bradshaw tied the game before Metarko went off the NA blockers to make it 9-8 in favor of Seneca.  The teams exchanged points before Haus went down the line, and senior setter Logan Meinert served an ace to give NA a 12-10 lead.  Once again, Seneca rallied to go on a 5-1 run behind the hitting of Alex Karika and the blocking of Kate Seman and Drambel.  With Seneca ahead, 15-13, a pair of consecutive Raider errors tied the score.  After Bradshaw went down the middle, the Tigers were called for a net violation and Drambel scored with a long hit just inside the back line to give Seneca an 18-16 advantage.  Bradshaw and Haus both scored kills to tie the game before Drambel went cross court to make it 19-18.  After Meinert's dink tied the game at 19-19, the teams exchanged errors to push the score to 20-20.  Three NA mistakes gave the Raiders a 23-21 lead before the Lady Tigers rallied to win the game.  Freyermuth went off the SV blockers and Pernell and Freyermuth blocked for points to give NA a 24-23 lead.  Bradshaw finished off the Raiders with a kill as the Lady Tigers won the first game, 25-23, to take a one game to none lead in the match.

After the Raiders took an early 2-0 lead in game two, Haus came back with a pair of kills to tie the game.  A kill down the middle by Freyermuth gave NA the lead for good at 3-2.  A Freyermuth block, a net violation by Seneca, and a kill by Pernell down the middle pushed the margin to 6-2.  After a lift was called against NA, Pernell scored down the middle again to make it 7-3.  The Raiders rallied to cut the lead to one behind the hitting of Seman and several NA hitting errors.  Freyermuth and Metarko exchanged kills before Bradshaw went deep to give NA a 10-8 advantage.  The Lady Tigers continued to lead with Haus, junior MB Julia Miller and Pernell all scoring to push the lead to 14-11.  With Haus serving, Pernell put back an overpass and the Raiders were called for a violation extending the margin to 16-11.  As they would do all night long, however, the Raiders came back, this time behind kills by Drambel, Seman, and Drambel again with a pair of kills to cut the margin to 17-15.  Miller and Bradshaw answered with kills, and Haus sent back an overpass to make it a 20-16 NA advantage.  Seman then served an ace and the Tigers committed a pair of hitting errors to bring Seneca to within one at 20-19.  A cross court kill by Haus and a service ace by senior DS Kelsey Davies extended the margin to 22-19.  After an NA miscommunication resulting in an easy Seneca point, Pernell scored down the middle to make it 23-20.  Tresser answered for the Raiders, but the Lady Tigers again were tough with the game on the line.  A kill by Freyermuth brought NA to game point.  After Karika put back an overpass to keep Seneca alive, a service error by the Raiders ended game two with the Lady Tigers taking a 25-22 victory and a two games to none lead in the match.

The teams battled on even terms in the early going in game three.  After Seneca built a 3-1 lead, a block by Freyermuth, and kill by Bradshaw down the line along with a block by Miller put NA on top, 4-3.  A kill by Seman and a block by Karika made it 5-4 before Haus went deep to tie the game.  After a Karika dink, a tip by Meinert and an ace by Bradshaw pushed NA back ahead, 7-6.  The teams continued to exchange points before Haus went off the blockers to give the Tigers a 10-9 lead.  Haus answered down the line and seemingly gave NA a 12-9 lead with a put back of an overpass.  NA was called on a net violation, however, making the score 11-10.  Seneca got new life and took advantage of it going on a 15-4 run to win game three.  Senior captain Megan Condit served four straight points before Freyermuth stopped the run to cut the SV lead to 14-12.  The Raiders started another run with Alyssa DiMaria serving and Dramble and Seman doing most of the damage.  Only a lift call against the Raiders slowed them down as SV extended the lead to 23-13 before Miller scored on a quick set.  A service error and a kill by Condit gave the Raiders a 25-14 victory in game three that cut the NA lead to two games to one in the match.

After an early 2-2 tie in game four, Haus scored on a cross court hit to start the Lady Tigers on a run.  After Haus scored again and a SV hitting error, Pernell went off the Seneca blockers and Bradshaw scored deep to push the NA margin to 7-3.  Kills by Freyermuth off a slide and another down the line, along with a rare Meinert kill down the middle, extended the lead to 11-5.  Seman came back with kill off a slide and an NA hitting error made it 11-7.  Bradshaw answered down the middle and Haus scored on two quick kills.  After an NA point on a Seneca miscommunication, it looked like the Lady Tigers were on their way to a match victory with a 15-7 lead.  The Raiders had other ideas, however, as they scored the next eight points to tie the game.  A pair of kills by Metarko, another by Seman, and a block by Treser along with several NA hitting errors brought Seneca back into the game.  At this point, the Lady Tigers regrouped after a Seneca hitting error gave NA the point and the serve.  Davies served an ace, Meinert tipped down the middle, and Davies hit the back line for another ace as NA took a 19-15 lead.  After a Seneca hitting error, Haus took over.  The Tiger senior scored on a tip, down the middle and twice down the line to close out the Raiders.  NA scored the final ten points of the game to win game four, 25-15, and the match, three games to one.

It was a good team win by the Lady Tigers with a number of players contributing.  Once again, Meinert was on target with her sets all night long giving the NA hitters the opportunity for success.  Bradshaw posted 10 kills and two service aces while Freyermuth added 10 kills and three blocks.  Pernell also played well at the net with eight kills on the night.  Davies was outstanding in the back with a number of key digs along with serving the last nine points of the deciding game including the two aces.  For her efforts at the net, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Leeanne Haus as the Player of the Match.

With the win, NA improved to 5-0 in section play, 6-1 overall.  The Lady Tigers will be back in action next Tuesday when they travel to North Hills for a 7:00 pm section contest.

LADY TIGERS BEAT BUTLER, 3-0, TO
REMAIN UNBEATEN IN SECTION

To listen to a replay of the match, click here!

The Lady Tigers downed the Butler Golden Tornado, 3-0, in a key section match at the Senior High gym on Thursday night.  NA dominated the Tornado, 25-14, in game one, but Butler came back to give the Lady Tigers a battle in games two and three as NA took 25-18 and 25-21 wins.  Junior MB Kassie Freyermuth led the Lady Tigers with 12 kills while senior OH Leeanne Haus added seven and senior OH Kaitlin Bradshaw six along with four service aces.

In game one, the Lady Tigers took control early jumping off to a 6-2 lead.  Freyermuth started things with a blast down the middle, Haus added a kill of the Butler blockers and another down the middle, and junior MB Tori Pernell scored off the blockers during the run.  After Butler got a pair of points on NA hitting and service errors, Freyermuth again went strong down the middle to give NA a 7-3 advantage.  Haus followed with a kill cross court and senior setter Logan Meinert picked up a kill off the Butler front row to push the margin to 9-3.  After an NA service error, Bradshaw continued to pound the Tornado front row with a kill along with a block by Meinert and junior MB Julia Miller.  Lyndsy Wittebort answered for Butler with a smash down the middle, but Bradshaw came back with an ace to make it a 13-5 NA lead.  After Wittebort put back an overpass, Meinert scored on a block.  Butler setter Amanda Huey tried to rally the Tornado scoring on a tip, but the first game belonged to the Lady Tigers.  Freyermuth came back with a tip and then a kill down the line.  After the Tornado's Abbie Druschel scored on a slide for Butler, Bradshaw tipped for a point and Miller scored off a quick set to push the margin to 20-11.  Down the stretch, Butler's Amanda Skidmore picked up a pair of kills, but NA closed the deal on a Miller block, another ace by Bradshaw with a Butler hitting error ending game one with NA winning, 25-14, to take a one game to none lead in the match.

An NA hitting error at the beginning of game two gave Butler their first lead of the night.  It was an indication of things to come as the Tornado played tough in the second game.  A Meinert tip put NA back ahead before Brynn Maxwell went off the NA blockers to tie the game at 2-2.  The Lady Tigers scored the next three points on a kill by senior DS Kelsey Davies down the middle, an ace by Meinert and a Butler hitting error.  A pair of NA hitting errors and a kill by Skidmore tied the game before Freyermuth answered with a kill to make it a 6-5 NA lead.  A hitting error, an ace by Haus, and a kill by Freyermuth off a quick set put NA ahead, 9-5.  Butler rallied, however, behind a pair of kills by Skidmore to cut the margin to 10-9.  Play got sloppy as the teams exchanged hitting errors with Butler creeping to within one at 11-10.  A kill by Haus was answered by a Druschel put back of an NA overpass that brought the score to 13-11.  Druschel blocked for a point and then went down the middle with Pernell answering off a quick set to make it a 16-14 NA lead.  Butler finally tied the score at 17-17 on a kill by Wittebort down the line after a pair of NA hitting errors.  At this point, the Lady Tigers regrouped to go on an 8-1 run and win game two.  After a Butler hitting error, Freyermuth put away an overpass and then drove a hard blast down the middle to make it 21-17.  After Marina Gracik answered with a kill down the middle, Freyermuth took over.  The NA junior went down the middle for a kill and then served the final three points, including an ace, as the Lady Tigers took game two, 25-18, to take a two games to none lead in the match.

Butler started quickly in game three building their largest lead of the night at 7-3.  Durschel, Wittebort and Skidmore all had kills during the run.  With Bradshaw serving, NA rallied to score score the next five points and take the lead.  During the run, it was a block by Haus, an ace by Bradshaw and hitting errors by Butler that accounted for the five points.  Butler's Danielle Lloyd served an ace before Miller answered off the Tornado blockers to tie the game at 9-9.  Meinert put NA ahead with a block, but Butler came back on a Wittebort kill off a slide and a Druschel kill cross court to go back ahead, 11-10.  Meinert tied the game with a cross court hit and then served a point to recapture the advantage for NA at 12-11.  After an NA hitting error, Freyermuth blocked for a point and then hit the back line to push the Lady Tigers to a 14-12 lead.  Bradshaw added another point off the blockers, but Huey came back with a deep kill to make it 15-13.  Bradshaw and Skidmore exchanged points before an NA hitting error and a putback of an overpass by Maxwell tied the game at 16-16.  The teams then exchanged service errors to make it a 17 all contest.  Once again, the Lady Tigers put it together down the stretch to take the lead and win game three.  A cross court kill by Bradshaw, a Butler hitting error, a kill by Haus down the middle and yet another Butler error gave NA a 21-17 advantage.  With NA up 22-17, Butler rallied behind kills by Huey and Wittebort, along with an ace by Lloyd to cut the margin to 22-21.  Miller then went down the middle, Pernell scored off the blockers, and Haus finished the Tornado with another strong hit down the middle as NA won game three, 25-21, and the match, three games to none.

After the Lady Tigers had things their own way in game one, the Tornado came back to play well in both games two and three.  The NA composure down the stretch in both games was a key to victory.  Meinert again was on target with her sets, the NA front line played well throughout most of the match, and the Lady Tiger defense led by Davies, Bradshaw and senior DS Caroline Koenig was able to keep a lot of balls alive with good digs.  For her efforts at the net, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Kassie Freyermuth as the Player of the Match.

With the win, NA improved to 3-0 in section.  The Lady Tigers will travel to Norwin on Monday for a 7:00 pm non-section match.

LADY TIGERS SWEEP OAKLAND CATHOLIC, 3-0

To listen to a replay of the match, click here!

The Lady Tigers successfully opened the 2009 section season with a 3-0 victory over Oakland Catholic at the Senior High gym on Tuesday night.  NA won the first game, 25-14, rolled over the Eagles, 25-9, in game two, and held off an OC rally to take game three, 25-22.  Senior OH Kaitlin Bradshaw led the way with 12 kills while senior OH Leanne Haus added nine for the winning Tigers.

Senior setter Logan Meinert started game one with seven straight serving points with junior MB Tori Pernell recording two kills and a block during the run.  After Arden Fisher blocked for a point for the Eagles, the Lady Tigers went on another run.  After Haus went down the middle, Pernell blocked for a point as the lead went to 9-1.  Two OC hitting errors and a Pernell kill off the front row blockers extended the margin to 11-2.  Two service errors by the Eagles and a kill down the middle by junior MB Julia Miller made it a 13-3 game.  The Eagles fought back with a pair of points, but game one belonged to the Lady Tigers.  Two kills by Miller, a blast by Haus of the OC blockers, and several Eagle hitting errors gave NA a 19-10 lead.  Junior MB Kassie Freyermuth then scored off a quick set, a hitting error by the Eagles gave NA another point, and Bradshaw scored off the blockers as NA extended the lead to 22-10.  Freyermuth put back an overpass and scored down the middle to put NA at game point.  Miscommunication in the front line ended things for the Eagles as NA took game one, 25-14, and a one game to none lead in the match.

In game two after Pernell scored cross-court to give NA the lead and the serve, Meinert again served three straight points with Haus adding four more from behind the line as the Lady Tigers jumped off to a 7-1 lead.  Pernell had a kill down the middle and a tip for points with Bradshaw adding another kill off the OC blockers during the run.  After an Eagle hitting error, Bradshaw scored again with a quick put down with OC coming back with a pair of points to cut the margin to 11-3.  The Lady Tigers quickly regained control of the game with a pair of aces by sophomore Claire Bradshaw to boost the margin to 15-3.  A kill by Kaitlin Bradshaw cross court and a left handed tip by Miller gave NA its biggest lead at 17-4.  After an NA hitting error, junior OH Katie Mitchell went deep to restore the 13-point margin.  After Kacie Planavsky went off the NA blockers, Meinert blocked for a point to make it 20-6.  OC's Maria Tassari and NA's junior opposite Rachel Wall exchanged points as the score went to 21-7.  After the Eagles committed several hitting errors, junior MB Emily Meyer got the game winner for the Lady Tigers on a cross court hit as NA won game two, 25-9, to take a two games to none lead in the match.

The Eagles came out strong in game three.  After OC was called for a net violation, Ali Cameron tied the game with a kill off the Tiger blockers.  An NA hitting error gave the Eagles their first lead of the night at 2-1 before Haus scored off the front row to tie the game at 2-2.  The Eagles then went on a 6-1 run behind a kill by Cameron, a pair of serving aces by Claire DeLucia, and a kill by Fisher to take an 8-3 lead.  NA battled back to finally take a 10-9 lead.  A pair of kills and a service ace by Kaitlin Bradshaw, an ace by junior Anna Nolan, and a kill by Haus helped put NA on top.  After a service error by the Tigers tied the game, Haus scored off the blockers and cross court to extend the lead to 12-10.  OC rallied to retake the lead on a deep hit by Cameron, an ace by Meghan Scully and an NA net violation.  Nolan came back with a kill to tie the game at 13-13, but Tassari went off the Na blockers to put OC back on top.  A cross court kill by Haus and an Eagle hitting error regained the lead for NA.  The Eagles would not go away, however, as they scored three straight points on a kill by Tassari, an NA hitting error, and a block by Saige Foster as OC took a 17-15 lead.  Kaitlin Bradshaw led an NA rally with a pair of kills and OC committed two hitting errors as the Lady Tigers went back ahead, 18-17.  A kill by Kaitlin Bradshaw off the blockers, a kill by Freyermuth into the right corner, another pair of kills by Kaitlin Bradshaw and an NA tip brought the Lady Tigers to match point at 24-19.  The Eagles fought desperately to stay alive on a cross court hit by Planavsky and a block and put back of an overpass by Cameron as they closed to within two at 24-22.  Haus finally ended the game and the match with a blast down the line as NA won game three, 25-22, and the match, three games to none.

The Lady Tigers got contributions from a number of players as they won the section opener.  Meinert won on target for most of the night as Coach Dan Schall used his bench extensively throughout the match.  Pernell finished with five kills and Freyermuth four for NA.  For her efforts at the net, the North Allegheny Sports Network named Kaitlin Bradshaw as the Player of the Match.  With the win, NA moved to 1-0 in section play.  The Lady Tigers will travel to Pine-Richland tomorrow night to meet the Rams in a key early season match.  The starting time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
