BUTLER TEAMS FALL TO NA

Meet Results

The Tiger teams traveled to Butler last Wednesday and came home with a pair of victories.  In the girls' meet, the Lady Tigers swamped the Golden Tornado, 105-76, while the boys had an easy time with a 115-66 victory over Butler.

The Lady Tigers won 8 of 12 races including sweeps in diving, the 200 free and 500 freestyle events, the 100 backstroke and the 200 free relay.  Junior Courtney Thompson led the way with wins in the 500 and 50 free events.  Also taking gold for NA were senior Emilie Foley in diving, junior Stephanie Graham in the 200 free, sophomore Marina Rozick in the 100 free, sophomore Sam Cready in the 100 backstroke, and freshman Erin Bishop in the 100 fly.

Taking second place points were seniors Jennifer Graham in diving and Sarah Musial in the 100 fly.  Junior Kylie Grady was second in the 200 free, junior Kasey Manko second in the 200 IM, sophomore Caroline Schweers in the 100 back, freshman Dana Scherer in the 50 free and freshman Allie Pennetti in the 500 free.

Earning third place finishes were senior Katie Knable in the 200 free, Manko in the 100 back, sophomore Adelee Choban in the 500 free, freshman Kelsey Smith in the 200 IM, and freshman Tess Bunting in diving.  The all-freshman relay team of Bishop, Scherer, Natalie Van der zee and Pennetti won the 200 freestyle relay race.

The boys won 10 of 12 events sweeping the 50 free, the 100 back and 200 free relay.  Freshman Matthew Buerger was a double winner taking both the 200 free and 100 fly.  Senior Kevin Kuntz won the 100 free and was second in the 100 back.  Junior Jonathan Du won the 50 free and was second in the 500 free, junior Sean Battle took the 200 IM and placed third in the 100 back, junior Jonathan Buerger captured the 100 back while sophomore Conor Kuremsky again won the diving.

Capturing second place finishes were sophomore Kostya Borisov in the 200 free and freshman Daniel Becker in the 50 free.  Winning third place points were senior David Songer in the 50 free, senior Devin Glace in the diving, senior Matt Magdic in the 500 free, junior Matt Reid in the 200 IM, sophomore Michael Magdic in the 100 fly, and freshman Jacob Plichta in the 100 free.

Two relay teams won their races.   In the 200 medley relay, the team of Matthew Buerger, Du, junior Mark Waugh, and Jonathan Buerger captured first place.  In the 200 free relay, the Buerger brothers teamed up with Waugh and Borisov to outdistanced two other NA teams to win the race.

With the wins, the NA team section records went to
3-0 with the boys' overall mark improving to 7-0, the girls to 6-1.  The Tiger teams will host Fox Chapel on Thursday night at the Senior High gym with the starting time set for 6:00 pm.

TIGER TEAMS WIN ALL-AMERICA MEET

Meet Results

The Tiger teams were victorious at the All-America Meet at Holy Redeemer HS in Wilkes-Barre on Friday and Saturday.  The NA teams won the boys, girls and combined titles.  Junior Jon Buerger won the Outstanding Male Swimmer for the second straight year.

The Lady Tigers won two individual events along with the 200 medley relay.  Junior Stephanie Graham took the 100 butterfly while junior Kylie Grady captured the 100 breaststroke.  The relay team was made up of sophomore Corinne Talhouk, junior Courtney Thompson, Grady, and freshman Allie Pennetti.

Taking second place points for NA were Stephanie Graham in the 200 IM, Thompson in the 100 fly, the 200 free relay team, the 400 free relay team and Talhouk in the 100 backstroke.  Freshman Kally Vanderbilt added third place finishes in the 200 free and the 500 free, Talhouk was third in the 200 IM, and junior Kasey Manko third in the 100 breaststroke.

The boys team won seven individual events along with all three relays to dominate the competition.  Jon Buerger won both the 200 and 500 free while junior Mark Waugh captured both the 200 IM and the 100 fly.  Senior Luis Rodriguez took first in the 100 freestyle, junior Jonathan Du tied for first in the 100 breaststroke and freshman Matthew Buerger won the 100 backstroke.

Rodriguez was second in the 200 free, senior Kevin Kuntz second in the 500 free and third in the 200 free while senior Joey Weiland took second in the 100 backstroke.  Junior Sean Battle was third in the 500 free with Matthew Buerger third in the 200 IM.  The Tigers swept both the 200 and 500 freestyle races.

In the winning 200 medley relay, it was Matthew Buerger, Waugh, Du and sophomore Kostya Borisov making up the NA squad.  The winning 200 free relay team was comprised of Jon Buerger, Weiland, Borisov, and Rodriguez.  Swimming for the victorious 400 free relay were Waug, Rodriguez, Kuntz, and Jon Buerger.

The Tiger teams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Butler for a 6:00 pm section meet.

TIGER TEAMS STOP FRANKLIN REGIONAL
IN NON-SECTION MEET

Meet Results

Both Tiger teams downed Franklin Regional in a non-section meet at the Senior High pool on Tuesday night.  The Lady Tigers took a 103-83 victory over the Panthers while the boys dominated FR by a 109-75 score.

The Lady Tigers won seven of 12 events including a sweep of the 200 medley relay.  Freshman Allie Pennetti led the way with wins in both the 200 IM and 100 back.  Senior Katie Knable captured the 200 free, junior Courtney Thompson the 500 free and freshman Kally Vanderbilt the 50 free for the winning Lady Tigers.  Both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams won their races.  Swimming for the medley relay were sophomore Marina Rozick, junior Stephanie Graham, junior Kasey Manko and freshman Lizzie Graham.  In the 400 free relay, Rozick, Vanderbilt, Thompson and sophomore Caroline Schweers made up the winning team.

Earning second place points were Thompson in the 200 IM, senior Emilie Foley in diving, Stephanie Graham in the 500 free and sophomore Leah Garcia in the 100 fly.  Finishing in third for NA were senior Jen Graham in diving, senior Sarah Musial in the 100 back, Schweers in the 100 free, and freshman Erin Bishop in the 100 breaststroke.

Placing third for the Tigers were junior Jonathan Buerger in both the 200 and 500 free, senior Devin Glace in diving, and Li in the 100 breaststroke.  Both the 200 medley and 200 free won their races.  Swimming in the 200 medley relay were Weiland, Du, Becker and Borisov while Rodriguez, junior Sean Battle, Becker and Jonathan Buerger made up the 200 free relay team.

With the wins, the boys extended their unbeaten record to 6-0 while the Lady Tigers improved to 5-1 on the season.  The Tiger teams will compete in the All-American Invitational at Holy Redeemer High School on Friday and Saturday.  Meet time is scheduled for 11:00 am.

TIGER TEAMS DUNK PINE-RICHLAND

Meet Results

Both Tiger teams moved to 2-0 in section meets with victories over Pine-Richland at the Senior High pool on Thursday night.  The boys took care of the Rams, 92-70, while the Lady Tigers posted a 102-79 victory.

The boys won all 12 events in posting the win over the Rams.  The Tigers swept the 200 and 400 free relays, the 200 freestyle, the 200 IM, the 500 free, the 100 back and 100 breaststroke events.  Leading the way were senior Luis Rodriguez and junior Jonathan Buerger, both double winners in the meet.  Rodriguez won both the 50 free and 100 backstroke along with swimming on the winning 400 freestyle relay team.  Buerger took the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke and swam on the winning 200 free relay.  Senior Kevin Kuntz won the 100 freestyle and was second in the 100 breaststroke while junior Sean Battle took the 100 fly and freshman Matthew Buerger the grueling 500 freestyle.  Sophomore Conor Kuremsky once again won the diving competition.

Second-place points went to senior Devin Glace in diving, junior Matt Reid in the 200 free, junior Jake Scherer in the 500 free and freshman Daniel Becker in both the 200 IM and 100 backstroke.  Posting third-place finishes were senior David Songer in the 50 free, senior Joey Weiland in the 100 fly, senior Matt Magdic in the 500 free, freshman Johnny Songer in the 200 free, and Sophomore Aaron Li in both the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.  Also swimming on the 200 free relay team were Battle, Reid and Scherer while Magdic, Weiland and Battle completed the 400 free team.

The Lady Tigers also dominated Pine-Richland winning 10 of the 12 events including sweeps in the 200 medley and 200 free relays, along with the 100 backstroke and breaststroke races.  Freshman Erin Bishop led NA with wins in both the 50 free and 100 backstroke events.  Six additional Lady Tigers took first-place honors with senior Stephanie Graham winning the 200 IM, senior Emilie Foley the diving, junior Courtney Thompson the 100 fly, junior Kylie Grady the 100 free, junior Kasey Manko the 100 breaststroke and freshman Kally Vanderbilt the 200 freestyle.

Placing second were senior Jennifer Graham in diving, senior Sarah Musial in the 500 free, sophomore Caroline Schweers in the 100 back, and freshman Veronica Cwalina in the 100 breaststroke.  Earning third-place points were senior Katie Knable in the 100 free, sophomore Leah Garcia in both the 200 free and 100 fly, sophomore Rachel Lewis in the 500 free, sophomore Adelee Choban in the 100 back, freshman Lizzie Graham in the 50 free and freshman Kelsey Smith in the 100 breaststroke.  Swimming on the winning 200 medley relay team were sophomore Marina Rozick, Grady, Stephanie Graham, and freshman Allie Pennetti.  On the 200 freestyle team were Rozick, sophomore Sam Cready, Vanderbilt and Pennetti.

With the wins, the NA teams remained unbeaten with 2-0 section marks.  The boys improved to 5-0 overall while the Lady Tigers went to 4-1 on the year.  The Tiger teams will host Franklin Regional on Tuesday night in a non-section meet.  The scheduled starting time is set for 5:00 pm.

TIGER TEAMS OPEN SECTION
COMPETITION WITH WINS

Meet Results

Both Tiger teams dominated Shaler in the section opener at Shaler on Tuesday night.  The boys drowned the Titans, 125-45, while the Lady Tigers were victorious by a 109-59 score. 

The boys' team won all eleven events including sweeps in the 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke along with the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.  Senior Luis Rodriguez and junior Mark Waugh led the way with double victories.  Rodriguez won both the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke while Waugh won both the 200 and 500 free in addition to swimming on the 200 freestyle relay team that finished first.  Senior Kevin Kuntz took the 50 free and was second in the 100 back along with helping the 200 medley relay to victory, junior Jonathan Du won the 100 fly and swam on the victorious 400 free relay, and junior Sean Battle captured the 100 backstroke and a third in the 200 IM.   Junior Jonathan Buerger was first in the 100 freestyle and was part of the winning 400 free relay. 

Taking seconds for NA were senior Joey Weiland in the 200 IM, freshman Matthew Buerger in the 50 free, senior Matt Magdic in the 500 free, and freshman Evan Staresinic in the 100 breaststoke.  Matthew Buerger was also part of the winning 200 medley relay while Weiland swam on the winning 200 free relay.  Picking up third place points were junior Jake Scherer in the 100 free, junior Matt Reid in the 100 breaststroke, and sophomore Michael Magdic in the 50 free.  Michael Magdic was part of both the 200 medley and 200 free relays while Scherer swam on the 400 free relay team.  Sophomore Aaron Li was part of both the 200 medley and 200 free relays while freshman Jacob Plichta swam on the winning 400 free relay.

The Lady Tigers captured 8 of the 11 swimming events with sweeps in the 200 and 500 free along with the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.  Five different swimmers were first place finishers.  Winning were sophomores Leah Garcia in the 50 free, Corinne Talhouk in the 100 fly, and Adelee Choban in the 500 free.  Freshman Allie Pennetti in the 200 free and Kally Vanderbilt in the 100 free also recorded wins in their races.  Choban captured a third in the 200 free while Vanderbilt was also part of the winning 200 medley and free relay squads.

With the wins, both teams went to 1-0 in section with the boys improving to 4-0 overall, the girls to 3-1.  The Tiger teams will host Pine-Richland tomorrow night at the Senior High pool with the starting time set for 6:00 pm.

TIGERS TOP MT. LEBANON

Meet Results

Both Tiger teams were victorious over Mt. Lebanon in the home opener at the Senior High pool on Thursday night.  The boys dropped the Blue Devils, 99-78, while the Lady Tigers were victorious by a 99-81 score.

Two juniors led the way for the Tigers with wins in two events.  Jonathan Buerger was first in both the 200 free and 500 free along with helping the 200 free relay team to a victory.  Mark Waugh won both the 200 IM and the 100 fly with a place on the winning 200 medley relay squad.  Senior Luis Rodriguez placed second in the 50 and 100 free and anchored the medley relay while freshman Matthew Buerger took second in both the 200 IM and 100 back along with swimming on the medley relay.  Senior Kevin Kuntz posted third place finishes in both the 200 and 500 free while junior Jonathan Du was third in the 200 IM with senior Joey Weiland taking third in the 1k00 back.  Matthew Buerger and Du also swam on the winning medley relay while Du, Kuntz, and sophomore Konstantine Borozov were part of the 200 free relay.

In diving, sophomore Conor Kuremsky was first, senior Devin Glace second, and junior Jake Scherer third as the Tigers swept the event.

For the Lady Tigers, there were two double individual winners also.  Sophomore Corinne Talhouk won both the 200 free and 100 back while freshman Allie Pennetti was first in both the 50 and 100 freestyle races.  Senior Sarah Musial won the 200 IM, junior Courtney Thompson the 100 fly, and freshman Kelly Vanderbilt the 500 free.  Vanderbilt also took second in the 50 free.  Junior Stephanie Graham posted a third in the 100 free, sophomore Marina Rozick was third in the 1000 back, and freshman Natalie Van der zee third in the 100 fly.  The winning 200 medley relay team was comprised of Talhouk, sophomore Leah Garcia, junior Kylie Grady, and Pennetti.  Swimming for the winning 200 free relay squad were Musial, Thompson, Vanderbilt, and Pennetti.  In diving, senior Emilie Foley captured second and senior Jen Graham third.

It was a record breaking night for the Tigers.  Jonathan Buerger set pool records in the 200 free and 500 freestyle races.  In addition, diver Connor Kuremsky's 334.80 set a varsity and pool record while Mark Waugh established a varsity and pool record in the 100 fly.  The 400 free relay team of Luis Rodriguez, Mark Waugh, Kevin Kuntz, and Jonathan Buerger also set a varsity and pool record.  In the 100 breaststroke, Jonathan Du swam a 1:01.18, one of the fastest times in the state this year.  Quite a night at the pool!

With the non-section wins, the boys increased their record to 3-0 while the girls improved to 2-1.  The Tiger teams will open section competition on Tuesday when they travel to Shaler for a 6:00 pm meet.  The Tiger teams will be home again on Thursday when they host Pine-Richland in a 6:00 pm meet.

BOYS BEAT BETHEL PARK;
GIRLS LOSE TO BLACKHAWKS

The Tiger swimming and diving teams had mixed success at Bethel Park on Tuesday night.  The boys' team was victorious by a 99-66 score while the Lady Tigers dropped a 101-85 decision to the Blackhawks.  No individual results have been forwarded to the website.

With the win, the boys remained unbeaten with a 2-0 record while the girls dropped to 1-1.  The Tiger teams will host Mt. Lebanon tonight in the home opener at the Senior High pool.  Meet time is scheduled for 6:00 pm.

TIGER TEAMS SINK GATEWAY IN DUAL MEETS

The Tiger teams opened their dual meet season with a pair of non-section victories over Gateway on Tuesday.  The boys' team downed the Gators, 131-51, while the Lady Tigers were victorious by a 138-47 score.  No individual results are available.

The Tiger teams will travel to Bethel Park tonight to meet the Blackhawks in non-section meets.  Meet time is scheduled for 5:00 pm.

TIGER TEAMS WIN IUP
KICKOFF CLASSIC

Meet Results

The Tiger teams won the combined championship at the IUP Kickoff Classic, a meet comprised entirely of relay races.  The Tiger teams set four meet records in winning the title.  The boys' team easily defeated second place Indiana while the girls came in second to Bethel Park.  In the combined team scores, NA totaled 239 points to second place Penn-Trafford's 171.

The Tiger teams will travel to Gateway tonight to meet the the Gators in a non-section meet.  The starting time is scheduled for 6:00 pm.

BOYS SECOND, GIRLS THIRD AT
STATE COLLEGE INVITATIONAL

Meet Results

The Tiger boys' team finished in second place while the girls were third in the State College Quad Invitational at State College High School on Friday and Saturday.  Emmaus was first in both the boys and girls' competition.

Senior Luis Rodriguez led the Tiger boys with a first in the 100 fly and a second in the 200 free along with leading the 200 medley relay to a second place finish.  Freshman Matthew Buerger was first in the 100 back, second in the 200 IM, and helped the 200 medley relay team to the silver.  Junior Jonathan Du took first in the 100 breaststroke and swam on both the 200 medley and 200 free relay teams that took second.  Senior Kevin Kuntz added a third place finish in the 500 free along with helping the 200 free relay team to second.  Senior Joey Weiland was a part of both the 200 medley and free relay teams with sophomore Konstantin Borisov swimming on the second place 200 free relay.

For the Lady Tigers, junior Kylie Grady won the 100 breaststroke while sophomore Corinne Talhouk was third in the 100 back.  The 400 free relay team of freshman Kathy Vanderbilt, junior Stephanie Graham, junior Courtney Thompson, and Talhouk took third place.

The Tiger teams will travel to Gateway on Tuesday night to meet the Gators in a non-section meet.  The starting time is set for 6:00 pm.
