MATCH SUMMARIES FORYS, LUX WIN PRELIMINARY MATCHES AT STATES
(3/8/12) A trio of North Allegheny wrestlers took to the mats at the start of the state individual meet on Thursday in Hershey. Sophomore Dom Forys, fresh off his third place finish at the WPIAL meet, defeated Jake Gromacki from Erie Cathedral Prep by a 7-5 margin in overtime. Forys will move on to the quarterfinals of the 106-pound weight class on Friday. Also advancing to quarterfinals was senior Jarred Lux, a 7-3 victor at the 182-pound classification. Lux will face Khilique Harris, out of McDowell High School, the team which eliminated the Tigers from the state tournament earlier this year. Junior Alex DiCiantis was not as fortunate, dropping his match by a 3-2 decision. DiCiantis did rebound to win his first round consolation match, 3-1, later in the day. The state competition will continue on Friday from the Giant Center in Hershey. Be sure to follow the North Allegheny Sports Network for results of further matches. PIAA FINALS CLASS AAA - Day One
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * JARRED LUX CLAIMS SILVER, TWO OTHER TIGERS EARN BRONZE AT WPIALS
(3/4/12) North Allegheny senior Jarred Lux fell just shy of a WPIAL title, taking Kiski’ Matt McCutcheon to the limit before dropping a 6-4 decision in overtime at the WPIAL Individual Wrestling Tournament on Saturday night. Despite coming up just short in the championship match at 182 pounds, Lux not only claimed a silver medal but also a spot in the state tournament in Hershey as well. Along with Lux, two other Tigers will be joining him in Hershey for the PIAA Tournament this week. Dom Forys collected a 3-1 decision over A.C. Headlee of Waynesburg to take home a WPIAL bronze medal in the third place bout at 106 pounds. In a 3-1 decision in overtime, Alex DiCiantis claimed a victory over Greensburg Salem’s Anthony Cable in the third place bout at 170 pounds. For Forys and DiCiantis, it is their second consecutive trip to Hershey. WPIAL FINALS CLASS AAA
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * JARRED LUX REACHES WPIAL FINALS,
(3/3/12) North Allegheny's Jarred Lux will battle for WPIAL gold tonight at the Individual Team Tournament in Norwin following a victory earlier today in the semifinals. Lux picked up a 3-0 decision over Kyle Spangler of Hempfield at 182 pounds and improves his record to 40-1 on the year. Lux will face top-seed Matt McCutcheon of Kiski Area in the finals. McCutcheon sports a record of 36-1 on the campaign.
In other action, Dom Forys (106) still has a shot at reaching the PIAA Tournament in Hershey and WPIAL bronze if he can claim a win in his third place bout tonight. Forys narrowly fell to undefeated Michael Kemerer of Franklin Regional in the semifinals by a 5-4 decision, but rebounded with a fall over James Harrison of West Mifflin in the consolation bracket. Forys will face the freshman phenom from Waynesburg, A.C. Headlee, in the third place bout tonight.
North Allegheny's own outstanding freshman nearly reached the third place bout at 195 pounds, but Zach Smith fell just shy as he was pinned by Montour's Cole Macek in the Fourth Round Consolations. Smith performed well in his first WPIAL Tournament action as he defeated Jack McGillick of Penn-Trafford by a 9-0 major decision and set down Canon-McMillan's Steve LaFrance by a 6-4 score in the consolations today before falling to Macek.
While Smith came up just short of the third place bout at 195, NA's Alex DiCiantis will take on Anthony Cable of Greensburg Salem in the third place match-up at 170 pounds. Like Forys, DiCiantis will qualify for state competition in Hershey if he can win in his third place bout tonight. Earlier today, DiCiantis was clipped by Adam Nickelson of Belle Vernon in the semifinals but bounced back with 5-3 decision over Chris Vayo of Mt. Lebanon to reach the consolation finals.
Due to injury, Jesse Rodgers lost by forfeit in the consolation bracket today. Rodgers suffered an injury default last night in the quarterfinals at 126 pounds to Franklin Regional's Josh Maruca.
Action continues at the WPIAL Individual Wrestling Tournament tonight with the Third Place bouts at 6:00 pm and the Championship Finals at 7:30 pm. Check the main NA athletics page for broadcast links courtesy of WJPA Radio. * * * * * * * * * * * * * NA ADVANCES THREE TO WPIAL SEMIFINALS
(3/3/12) Three North Allegheny wrestlers have kept their hopes for WPIAL gold alive with victories on Friday at the WPIAL Individual Wrestling Tournament. Dom Forys, Alex DiCiantis and Jarred Lux all advanced in the tournament with quarterfinal wins.
Forys picked up a pinfall over Canon-McMillan's Brendan Price at the 4:33 mark. Forys will have his toughest match yet in the semifinals as he takes on undefeated Michael Kamerer of Franklin Regional. Forys owns a record of 38-3 while Kamerer, the top seed at 106 pounds, holds a mark of 34-0.
At 170 pounds, DiCiantis earned a 3-0 decision over Zach Musco of Kiski Area and improves to 34-6 on the year. DiCiantis will battle Adam Nickelson of Belle Vernon who is 34-3.
Lux is the third of the NA trio to advance to the semifinals and did so with a 9-1 victory over Tyree Atkinson of West Mifflin. Lux takes his impressive 39-1 record into the semifinals to face Hempfield's Kyle Spangler.
Jesse Rodgers saw his opportunity to advance into the semifinals end in a frustrating injury default to Josh Maruca of Franklin Regional. If he's able to go this morning, Rodgers will take on Korey Caudill of Butler in the second round of the consolation bracket. Freshman Zach Smith suffered a loss by fall to Scott Mohring of Latrobe in the quarterfinals but will continue today against Jack McGillick of Penn-Trafford in the consolation's second round.
Sophomore Colton Byerly was tripped up in the first round of the consolations with a 3-2 loss to Norwin's Zak Kelly. Byerly's run through the tournament comes to an end with the defeat.

North Allegheny saw three wrestlers claim gold, with two bringing home silver, and one more notching a bronze.

(2/11/12) North Allegheny began Saturday's action at the Giant Center in Hershey with a 33-31 win over Delaware Valley before ultimately falling in the Fourth Round Consolations at the state tournament to Mechanicsburg, 43-22. In the win over Delaware Valley, the Tigers received falls from Dom Forys (113), Ben Schweiger (145), Colton Byerly (160), Jarred Lux (182), and Nate Nachazel (220) to edge out a two point victory.
Against Mechanicsburg, the Tigers received a major decision from Jesse Rodgers (132) who downed Kyle Shuler by a 14-1 score. NA also picked up regular decisions from Dom Forys (113) and Blynn Shideler (120). Forfeit victories for Scott Stossel (106) and Jarred Lux (182) rounded out the scoring for the Tigers, but five falls by Mechanicsburg were too much to overcome.
North Allegheny's trip through the WPIAL and PIAA tournaments were outstanding as the team portion of the wrestling season comes to a conclusion. The Tigers end the year with a 20-6 record. The individual tournament action gets started with the Section 3 Tournament on February 25.

(2/10/12) North Allegheny bounced back from a loss in the PIAA first round last night with a 37-27 win over Big Spring this morning in the first round of the PIAA Consolation bracket. The Tigers picked up four falls along the way, courtesy of Scott Stossel (106), Jarred Lux (182), Nate Nachazel (220), and Kevin Clemens (285). Today's effort was a bit of a reversal from last night as the NA heavyweights delivered the big victories this time around. Others adding to the NA team total were Dom Forys and Jesse Rodgers with wins by decision at 113 and 132 pounds respectively. At 160 pounds, Colton Byerly notched a major decision over Cole Haldeman by a 9-1 score.

(2/9/12) The North Allegheny Wrestling Team dropped its PIAA First Round match-up with the Erie McDowell Trojans on Thursday night, 27-20. The Tigers dominated the lower weight classes with major decisions by Scott Stossel (106) and Dom Forys (113). Blynn Shideler (120) earned revenge over Coleman Cousins, a wrestler he lost to in a meet with McDowell earlier in the year, claiming a 4-2 decision. However, North Allegheny would win only three more bouts for the rest of the night. Jesse Rodgers (138) took down Logan Hammer by an 8-1 decision. Alex DiCiantis (170) and Zach Smith (195) added decision for the remainder of the NA victories. In a shocker, Jarred Lux fell for the first time this season, dropping an 8-5 decision to Khlique Harris. Lux had defeated Harris by a 3-1 decision at NA Quad Day in late January. (2/4/12) Despite a valiant effort on Saturday night, the North Allegheny Tigers fell to the defending WPIAL Champion Canon-McMillan Big Macs by a 53-12 score in the WPIAL finals. North Allegheny picked up a pinfall by Jarred Lux, along with decisions by Alex DiCiantis and Jesse Rodgers for their three victories on the night. After Canon-McMillan started the match with a fall by Cody Wiercioch (170), North Allegheny was able to grab a 9-6 lead when DiCiantis picked up a decision and Lux (195) followed with a fall. However, it was all Big Macs after that. Canon McMillan would win six straight matches, with falls from Alex Campbell (220), Cody Klempay (285), and Colton Shorts (126), to take a 35-9 lead. North Allegheny would get back on the scoreboard, as Jesse Rodgers (132) added a 3-0 win over Malachi Krenzelak at 132 to make it 35-12. However that would be the last time North Allegheny would come out on top in a match. Canon-McMillan would win the last four matches, including a fall by Sammy Minor (145), to give the Big Macs their third straight WPIAL AAA Championship with a 53-12 victory. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGERS RALLY TO BEAT CONNELLSVILLE,
(2/3/12) North Allegheny trailed most of the night and never led until the final bout, but Mike Wanner's major decision at 126 pounds lifted the Tigers to a dramatic 29-28 win over the Connellsville Falcons in the WPIAL Semifinals on Friday night. The win pits North Allegheny against the defending WPIAL champions, the Canon-McMillan Big Macs in the finals tonight.
The semifinals got off to an ominous start for North Allegheny as the Falcons soared to 19-0 lead by winning the first five bouts of the night. The evening began at 132 pounds and the Tigers didn't claim a victory until Alex DiCiantis earned a 3-2 decision over Jeremy Basinger at 170 pounds. Jarred Lux followed with a fall over Matthew Butler and freshman phenom Zach Smith earned a major decision over Joshua Fremd to pull NA to within 19-13. The Tigers momentum stalled when Connellsville's Dylan Miller picked up a fall at 220 pounds to balloon the Falcons lead to 25-13.
With their backs against the wall, North Allegheny responded with victories in four of the final five bouts of the night. At 285 pounds, Kevin Clemens earned a 6-2 decision over Gunnar Lynch and Scott Stossel followed with a 6-4 decision over Daniel Leonard at 106 pounds. When Dom Forys pinned Colton DeWitt at 113 pounds, the Tigers came all the way back to tie the score at 25-25. However, Ryan Burkholder gave the Falcons the lead back with an 11-5 decision at 120 pounds. That set the stage for Wanner's thrilling major decision victory over Brown in the final bout of the evening.

LUX LEADS NA GRAPPLERS TO WPIAL SEMIFINALS
(2/2/12) With a pair of exciting victories on Wednesday night, the North Allegheny Tigers have reached the final four of the Class AAA WPIAL Team Wrestling Tournament for the first time since 1999. North Allegheny opened the night with a 35-31 win over the Pittsburgh Central Catholic Vikings. In the quarterfinals, the Tigers toppled the second-seeded Kiski Area Cavaliers by a 36-30 final and clinched the win on a pinfall by Jarred Lux over Kiski's Shane Kuhn in a 220-pound bout. Scott Stossel (106) and Alex DiCiantis (170) also recorded pins for the Tigers. Lux, who remains undefeated at 28-0, also collected a pinfall in NA's opening round win over Central Catholic.

(1/26/12) North Allegheny fell short in their bid to repeat as Section 3 champions on Wednesday night as the Hampton Talbots ended the Tigers longtime reign at the top with a 30-29 win in the Section Tournament Semifinals. The Tigers bounced back in the Third Place Consolation match with a 41-27 victory over Hopewell to conclude the night.
Things looked good early for North Allegheny as Zach Smith jump started the Tigers with a second period pinfall over Mike Link to put NA in front 6-0 over Hampton in the semifinal match-up. In a battle of two top athletes at 195 pounds, Jarred Lux kept his undefeated record intact with a 9-5 decision over Jake Hart. For Hart, it was only his second loss all season long. For the Tigers, Lux's victory meant a 9-0 lead. Hampton closed the gap to 9-8 with a pair of major decisions before NA's Scott Stossel picked up a major decision of his own at 106 pounds with a 13-0 win over Patrick Keyser. Dom Forys followed with a win by forfeit and Blynn Shideler picked up a 4-0 decision at 120 pounds over John Keyser to increase North Allegheny's advantage to 22-8. Hampton broke the Tigers string of victories when Peter Craig earned a major decision over Mike Wanner to bring the score to 22-12, Tigers. Meanwhile, Jesse Rodgers came right back with an exciting 7-3 victory over Kevin Synan to give North Allegheny a 25-12 lead. Rodgers was trailing 3-2 late in the third period, when he took down Synan with 30 second left in the bout to grab a 4-3 lead and followed with three back points as time ran out. For his win, Rodgers was named the Wright Automotive Wrestler of the Match.
Rodgers' victory seemed to give North Allegheny the momentum that would push them toward another section final. However, Hampton would win the next four bouts, including a huge pinfall win by Brian Estep at 152 pounds, to pull Hampton in front 30-25 with just one more bout to go. That left only the 170 pound match between NA's Alex DiCiantis and Hampton's Brandon Olszewski. The Tigers needed either a tech fall to tie or a pinfall to win, but the feat would not be easily attained with Olszewski back peddling most of the match. DiCiantis, a state qualifier from a year ago, did his best to corral the clearly defensive Olszewski and claimed a 16-5 major decision, but ultimately it wasn't enough as the Talbots moved on to the section finals with a 30-29 victory.
In the Third Place Consolation match between North Allegheny and Hopewell, the Tigers once again started with a victory from Zach Smith who picked up a 7-0 decision over Tyler Sparkman. For his impressive night, Smith was named the Wright Automotive Wrestler of the Match in the Tigers victory over Hopewell. After Smith's win, the Vikings rolled off three consecutive victories, including two pinfalls, for an 18-3 lead. North Allegheny would win seven of the remaining nine bouts to claim their second win of the year over Hopewell, 41-27. Mike Wanner, Blynn Shideler, and Jarred Lux all earned falls over their opponents in the consolation match. Lux barely broke a sweat, pinning Dillon Drositis in a matter of seconds.
North Allegheny's overall record now sits at 14-3 on the year as the Tigers await the bracket announcement for the WPIAL Team Tournament next.
