NA CHEERLEADING BOOSTER MEETING

JUNE 3, 2009

OPENING REMARKS:

JoAnn Vandergrift went over newly elected officers and committee heads - approved by Kathy Machiko & Sandy Mencini.

OLD BUSINESS:

The coaches are requesting the girls be on time for practice and to be picked up in a timely fashion.  If you can not make it to practice, you need to contact a coach with your reason for not attending.  We need to be respectful of everyone’s time.

Fees for summer tumbling started June 1st - payments are due at the beginning of the month.  Dana’s fees are$10/week, $40/month.  They will not miss tumbling during mini-camp but will miss one during UCA camp.

Our gift to Sue Sweeney was a great success - she appreciated the thoughtfulness and generosity.  The spring flowers and Chico’s gift card are any girl’s best friend.

UCA camp is June 22, 23, & 24 from 8:45 to 4:00 - the location will be announced later.  Boosters will serve lunch, probably pizza & hoagies.  If anyone has a contact with someone that can supply the food, we are all ears.  We may need more water depending on the remainder from mini camp - any volunteers?  We also need volunteers to take Popsicles, etc. to the girls.  FYI - Kennywood day is June 23rd - make a note of it if you want to help out.

SUCCESS. . . the girls going to the schools to pass out flyers for min camp was a big hit.  As of now, 190 girls are attending!  Ann Moss brought it to our attention that the Friday performance needs to be moved to the lower gym at NAI as the space is better suited for the number of girls attending - Yea!

Parties waiting to put ads in mini camp program need to have them in by Thursday, June 11th.  Please contact Ann Moss with questions.

Ice and coolers are still needed for mini camp - contact Elizabeth Webber.

The groups are finalized for mini camp - the announcements will be made at Monday’s practice.  The last practice for mini camp will be Monday June, 8th.

Mini camp can always use extra help - they are called ‘floaters’.  If you are available the week of June 14th, come on over and we will put you to good use.

FUNDRAISING:

Making its return for the 3rd year is the ultimate T-shirt sale.  We are going to get this started a little earlier so we can hit Tiger Pride, etc.  Michelle is also thinking about a lottery sale and/or popcorn sale which yields 50% profit - awesome - most likely using cup-size portions at football & basketball games (nuts in a sleeve are also a delicious option).  Order forms are available for anyone wishing to sell these items on their own.  Please contact Michelle Pope at 412-367-1267 for further info.  Thanks to Michelle for her hard work already and more to come.

Another idea for fundraising is to have a clinic for elementary age girls to teach them a dance that can be performed at a basketball game.  We would need to come up with how many girls could attend and what to charge.  We will really pursue this at our August Booster meeting. Any additional ideas for this fund raiser are welcome - the more involvement, the better!

Another idea is a 5 - 10k walk in North Park.  The money would be raised in registration fees.  Patti Amos suggested T-shirts - great idea, as we need something to give them that day.  We could set up some water stands around the course.  Julie Hailstone, Michelle Pope, Patti Amos, and Andrea Conley are going to get on this right away.  Additional input is encouraged.  We are shooting for October and need to determine fees and the actual date prior to getting Bob Bozzuto’s approval.

UBA:

Crock-pots and roasters are no longer allowed to be used in the concession stands.  We may microwave meat purchased by school cafeteria or other professional kitchen.  Walking taco’s are permitted as long as they contain the proper type of meat.  Bake sales are permitted.

Impact testing dates are on the NA website. All girls entering 7th, 9th or 11th grades or have not taken it before must  take the test this summer.  PLEASE mark your calendar - physicals MUST be completed between June 1st and August 7th - NO EXCEPTIONS we are told

CLOTHING:

Sandy will distribute mini camp clothing at Monday’s tumbling class.  Please have the girls attend or get a friend to pick up their clothing.  The cheerleaders will get their shoes and ribbons on Monday, June 14th at mini camp.  Monday, Wednesday, Friday the cheerleaders will wear new hot pink/zebra outfits.  Tuesday & Thursday they can wear white shorts and black top, (the last year’s mini-camp outfit).

The coaches have chosen three new clothing items for the cheerleaders this year.  The details for these will be given later.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:35.  The next meeting will be in mid-August. The time and date will be announced soon.
