Following an historic season for the North Allegheny girls’ basketball program, two Lady Tigers have been selected to the Pennsylvania Sports Writers all-state team. Senior guard/forward Hailey Zeise and sophomore guard Rachel Martindale received Third-Team all-state laurels. The duo were key contributors to North Allegheny’s 28-2 season, the program’s first WPIAL championship, and debut appearance in the PIAA title game in Hershey.

Zeise, the lone senior on the team and dazzling all-around player, led the Tigers in rebounding with 7.1 boards per game and swiped a team-best 77 steals. Zeise averaged 10.7 points per game.

Sophomore guard Rachel Martindale.

A starter since her freshman season, Martindale took her game to an even higher level as a sophomore and paced the Tigers with 12 points per game. Serving as the top sharpshooter on an excellent 3-point shooting team, Martindale buried 69 of 186 attempts from beyond arc, hitting at a 37-percent clip.

Zeise will play collegiately at Division I Stony Brook University next season. Martindale, also a softball player at North Allegheny, has verbally committed to the University of Pittsburgh to play softball.
