The playoff-bound and top-ranked North Allegheny Tigers won their 17th in a row on Thursday night with a 51-32 victory over the Fox Chapel Foxes in Section 1-6A action. Sophomore guard Lizzy Groetsch netted a game-high 22 points and crashed the boards for numerous offensive rebounds to help pace the Tigers. Groetsch was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game by the North Allegheny Sports Network.

Fox Chapel flustered North Allegheny in the early going and held a 7-5 lead after one quarter of play. The Foxes limited the Tigers to only one field goal in the first period, a 3-pointer by senior Brynn Serbin.

Fox Chapel extended the lead to 12-8 in the second quarter before North Allegheny flipped the script with its stingy defense. The Tigers turned turnovers into transition buckets to spark a 10-0 run for an 18-12 lead. From that point on, North Allegheny gained command of the contest and swelled the lead throughout the contest.

Held scoreless in the first half, senior Rachel Martindale heated up in the second half and finished with 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. The Tigers dominance on the offensive glass in the second half assured the Tigers a 51-32 triumph.

Fox Chapel was led by junior point guard Gabbi Guerrieri with 11 points.

North Allegheny now sits at 17-0 overall and 10-0 in Section 1-6A. Fox Chapel, who remains in third place and in position to secure its first playoff spot in three years, falls to 11-5 overall and 6-4 in section play. The Tigers have a chance to gain a stranglehold toward a section title when they visit the 14-1 Norwin Knights on Tuesday. The game will be broadcast live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
