Tigers Top Talbots In Non-Section Matchup
By: Jared Barton
The North Allegheny boys’ soccer team hit the road to face Hampton Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. The Tigers came out on top, winning the match 3-2 in OT.
NA wasted no time getting on the board in the first minute of action. Junior Alec Vattula feathered a long cross to the back post that sophomore James Hetherington headed in.
Hampton found the back of the net eight minutes later on a penalty kick from senior Carson Colvin. Three minutes later, the Talbots took the lead off a corner kick that was sent to the back post and headed by senior Matteo Sciulli.
North Allegheny’s response came in the 55th minute. Junior Connor Heliger played a pass to senior Kevin Chen, who drove a shot from 20 yards out that deflected off the Hampton goalkeeper’s fingertips and found twine.
The teams headed to overtime tied at two goals apiece. The Tigers found the game-winner in the 83rd minute of action. Senior Emmett Morris secured a pass to an open Owen Lopresti, and the junior took a strong shot for the win.
The goalkeeping tandem of seniors Xavier Zyskowski and Bren Powell combined to bring home the victory, stopping three shots.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 7-3-2 overall. The Tigers are back in action Tuesday night on the road for the second of two meetings with Pine-Richland. That match is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.
