Tigers Fall To Indians In Non-Section Matchup

North Allegheny girls basketball hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Washington County to face the reigning 5A WPIAL Champion Peters Township at AHN Arena. The Indians used a 28-point effort in the third quarter to pull away from the Tigers and win 72-47.

NA and Peters played a close first quarter, with seniors Vange Balouris, Rae Shanahan and freshman Lexi Momper leading the way. Momper made two baskets and hit a free throw, while Balouris had a three-pointer and a foul shot. Shanahan also made two baskets as NA trailed 19-15 after one quarter.

Peters Township outscored North Allegheny 13-6 in the second frame, then dropped 28 to extend a comfortable lead at the end of the third. The Indians were paced by senior Bri Morreale, who finished with a game-high 23 points, including five three-pointers. Sophomore Taylor McCullough also dropped 18 points with a pair of triples.

Balouris was the main source of offense for the Tigers, ending the contest with 21 points. Momper contributed nine total points, while junior Rosalia Varlotta added seven.

North Allegheny continues non-conference play at the Akron Hoopfest this weekend. NA takes on the Linsly School (WV) Saturday night at 6:30 and Mayfield (OH) Sunday afternoon at 1:00.
