The North Allegheny boys soccer team opened up home play at Newman Stadium with a 3-0 win over Canon-McMillan in a non -section matchup.

Canon Mac had early momentum, but NA was up to the task and was able to take over.

In the 14th minute, the first Tiger goal of the season was scored off a corner kick. Sophomore Manny Yu had the tally with less than 27 minutes to play in the first half.

North Allegheny netted two more insurance goals in the second half. In the 48th minute, a Canon-McMillan foul led to a free kick from midfield. Junior goalkeeper Jaxon Cowger sent a booming shot that found senior Francis Randiga for a header in tight quarters to give NA a 2-0 lead.

With less than six minutes to play in the contest, senior captain Connor Heliger executed a corner kick from the far flag that connected with junior James Hetherington at the far post. Hetherington headed the ball across the goalmouth to junior Vik Vaders, who headed the ball into the net.

For his efforts and strong play throughout the match, Vaders was named Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

North Allegheny improves to 1-1-0 on the young season and is back in action at home for a non-section matchup with Norwin on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. That match will be broadcast on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
