Tigers Shutout Vikings For Second Straight Win
By: Jared Barton
North Allegheny boys’ soccer faced Central Catholic from Newman Stadium on Tuesday night in a non-section meeting. The Tigers took the convincing win 3-0, and extended a non-losing streak against the Vikings, with a 12-0-1 record in the last 13 games against Central.
North Allegheny looked poised from the begging of the contest and they did not take long to get on the board.
With 37 minutes left in the opening half, senior captain Harper Boles accepted a pass into the offensive zone and quickly found junior Vik Vaders, who kicked in the game’s opening marker. It was the second in as many games for Vaders, who had the final tally against Canon-Mac a week ago. Roughly two minutes later, Central Catholic was called for a foul in the NA offensive end, setting up a free kick. The opportunity turned into a pass for junior Kevin Bandes, who tapped in the second goal.
In the second half, the Tigers rushed the offensive zone with 26 minutes to play. Sophomore Josh Tufts had possession near the goal line and nearside post, but passed backwards on an angle to senior Aniketh Ghosh, who buried the insurance marker top shelf in the opposite corner. Ghosh was named Wright Automotive Player of the Game for his efforts.
Junior Jaxon Cowger had another strong night in net, making a few saves for his second consecutive shutout.
North Allegheny improves to 2-1-0 on the season and will be back in action at home Thursday night for the first section match of the year against Moon. The North Allegheny Sports Network will have live coverage of the contest starting at 7:00 p.m.
