Tigers blank Moon for section opening win

It was a match up of Tigers at Newman Stadium, as Moon came to Wexford to face North Allegheny to open up Section 3-4A play.

North Allegheny stayed hot and stingy, scoring a goal in each half to post a 2-0 win, their third straight victory, all via shutout.

A precarious moment for North Allegheny came in the games 24th minute. A miscommunication with a Tigers defender, sent a ball passed keeper Jaxon Cowger and rolling towards an empty net. But Cowger raced back to his line and made a sliding save to sweep the ball away, preventing an own goal and keeping the match scoreless.

North Allegheny scored the game’s first goal in the 35th minute after some great footwork by junior Vik Vaders. Vaders dribbled toward the left corner, and after putting the ball backwards through a defender’s legs, moved along the left goal line extended. He then served a perfect ball in front which Caiden Sowa tapped into the net for a 1-0 lead.

It was Sowa again on the second goal. He rushed forward for a loose ball in the box on a break and was met by Moon keeper Rocco Reilsono who knocked Sowa down and was called for a foul. Sowa blasted the penalty kick through a diving Reilsono to put North Allegheny up 2-0 in the 73rd minute.

That score would hold up, as North Allegheny improved to (3-1, 1-0) with the win. With the loss, Moon drops to (2-2-1, 0-1).

North Allegheny will celebrate Youth Soccer Night in its next match Saturday night when Hampton comes to Newman Stadium for a non-section contest. That kickoff is scheduled for 6:30pm and is part of a day-night double header, with the North Allegheny girls hosting Norwin earlier in the day.
