Five Tigers Named All-State, NA Girls Tabbed Team of the Year

The 2023 PA Mile Split All-State Teams were released on Tuesday and a bevy of awards were amassed by the North Allegheny cross country team.

On the boys’ side, junior Jack Bertram was named First-Team All-State and earned Junior of the Year laurels for an outstanding 2023 season. Bertram led North Allegheny to a sixth straight WPIAL championship and a sixth-place finish at the PIAA championships. Individually, Bertram earned a second-place finish at states as well as silver medal performances at the TSTCA XC Championships, PIAA Foundation Meet, Boardman Spartan Invite and the Red, White & Blue Classic.

The Lady Tigers brought home a bushel of end-of-season awards from PA Mile Split, including Team of the Year and Coach of the Year honors for head coach John Neff. The NA Girls won a sixth consecutive WPIAL and PIAA crown, while also earning gold medal performances at the TSCTA Championship, PIAA Foundation Meet, Boardman Spartan Invite and the Red, White & Blue Classic. The Lady Tigers also took fifth place at the prestigious Nike Cross Country Nationals.

Individually, senior Eva Kynaston was tabbed First-Team All-State and the Most Valuable Runner in Pennsylvania. Among her top performances, Kynaston took second place at the PIAA championships, TSTCA Championship and PIAA Foundation Meet. The Penn State commit also took 65th at the Nike Cross Country Nationals.

Junior Wren Kucler was recognized as a First-Team All-State selection and was recognized with Junior of the Year honors. Among her top performances, Wren Kucler claimed first place at the Boardman Spartan Invitational and the Red, White & Blue Classic. She also took third place at the Nike Cross Northeast Regionals and 38th at the Nike Cross Nationals.

Second-Team All-State accolades went to junior Robin Kucler and Third-Team All-State laurels went to senior Erin McGoey, a University of Delaware commit.
