Fox Chapel came into tonight’s match riding a seven-game winning streak and the Foxes were in first place in 4A Section 3. North Allegheny was looking to rebound from a section road loss on Tuesday to Seneca Valley. The two teams that tied for the section title last season played tight again, but Fox Chapel’s first-half goal was the only marker in a 1-0 win at Newman Stadium.

North Allegheny had the game’s first chances, with Francis Randiga deflecting a pass just wide with a sliding effort in the first minute of play. The Tigers’ best chance came from a corner kick in the 9th minute. Justin Stalter found a bouncing ball and got off a great shot that was heading just under the bar, but Brady Matthews made the save to keep the match scoreless.

Fox Chapel scored the only goal of the night in the 18th minute. Rocco Didomenico had a great left-footed strike from 16 yards out that found its way inside the near post for the 1-0 lead.

There were not many opportunities either way in the second half, although Harper Boles had a chance in the 50th minute that went high. Senior Xavier Zyskowski made several saves to keep the Tigers within striking distance, but North Allegheny could never find the equalizer.

North Allegheny led in corners (7-4), and neither team was issued any cards on the evening. Senior captain Justin Stalter had the best scoring chance for North Allegheny and, with solid play from his outside back position, was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.

The Tigers (5-3-2) (2-2-1) sit in third place in the section after the back-to-back losses. North Allegheny had a Saturday contest against Montour cancelled. They are scheduled to be in action next Thursday when they host North Hills on Senior Night. That match can be heard on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
