Macey Casten, Jack Bertram Named 2025 Athletes of the Year
By: Jared Barton
Two multi-sport athletes took home the 2025 North Allegheny female and male athlete of the year awards this spring.
Senior volleyball and girls flag football player Macey Casten, along with senior cross country and track athlete Jack Bertram, were given the awards as the school year came to a close.
Casten was an All-State volleyball player who led the Tigers in 2024 with 572 digs. She also led the team in aces with 60 and had 56 assists, which was good for fourth on the team. Casten was also named first-team all-section, first-team all-Big 56 and was first-team All-WPIAL. The team captured its eighth straight PIAA title back in the fall. On the gridiron, she was a first-year player who had to fill some big shoes, replacing graduating quarterback Kyra Schmidt. Casten completed over 110 passes and had only turned the ball over four times during the 2025 regular season. She also played defensive back, where she had three interceptions. The two-way player was a member of the Big 33 Girls Flag Football Classic team. Casten is set to attend Penn State in the fall.
Bertram had a tremendous senior campaign, becoming the fastest distance runner in North Allegheny history. He won three WPIAL gold medals in track, winning the 1600-meter and 3200-meter while also being the anchor on the 4×800-meter relay team that took home gold. Then he came in second at the PIAA Championships in the 3200-meter run with a school-record time and third in the 1600. The 3200-meter run was the sixth-fastest in PIAA Class 3A championship history and broke North Allegheny’s school record of 8:56.43, set by Matt McGoey in 2015. In the winter, Bertram won state gold in the 3000-meter run, defeating the field by three seconds. Back in the fall, he was named the Post-Gazette Athlete of the Week for finishing fifth at the Red, White & Blue Invitational at White Oak Course in McKeesport in September. He was the top WPIAL finisher at the event. Bertram will run for the University of Notre Dame next year.
Congrats to both Casten and Bertram on tremendous careers at North Allegheny and good luck in your futures!
