NA Cruises To Win Over Peters Township At Joey Fabus Classic
For the past two seasons, the Class 6A championship in girls’ basketball has come down to North Allegheny and Peters Township. In 2018, the Tigers mercy-ruled the Indians for a 79-48 win. Last season, Peters Township edged NA in overtime, 43-40. The two teams rekindled their rivalry on Saturday night at the Joey Fabus Classic at Bethel Park in a game that more resembled the 2018 title tilt as North Allegheny rolled to a 68-36 victory.
The Tigers were on fire from the very start and opened up a 21-10 lead in the first period and held a 36-22 advantage by halftime. The lead grew even larger in the second half as NA outscored the Indians, 31-15, in the final two quarters.
Junior Lizzy Groetsch was the leading scorer for North Allegheny with a game-high 25 points. Sophomore Taylor Rawls netted 14 points and poured in three 3-pointers in the third period. Peters Township was paced by Alina Coppula, who had eight points on the night.
With the non-section win, North Allegheny improves to 14-3 overall. Peters Township falls to 5-12 on the season. The Tigers will host Norwin in an important Section 1-6A clash on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
