NA Drops Regular Season To Norwin, 4-2
Facing off against the Section 1-AAAA champion Norwin Knights on Tuesday night, the North Allegheny boys’ soccer team fell in a tough playoff tune-up at Newman Stadium, 4-2.
The Tigers got off to a quick start in the regular season finale as junior midfielder Ben Christian scored 3:43 into the game to give NA a 1-0 advantage. The lead was short-lived, however, as Norwin was awarded a penalty kick when a handball was called in the NA box just 56 seconds later. Caleb Yuricha cashed in on the PK and tied the game at 1-1. With 14:27 to play in the first half, Norwin’s T.J. Rose scored to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
Norwin maintained its one goal lead until expanding the advantage to 3-1 on a Ryan Harrigan marker with 14:25 remaining in the second half. North Allegheny closed the gap to 3-2 thanks to a goal by sophomore Arnav Patel with 7:06 left in regulation. Norwin put the game away with 5:14 on the clock on a marker by Rick Zappone to close out a 4-2 victory.
With the loss, North Allegheny falls to 13-5 overall, while Norwin improves to 14-1-1 on the year. Both teams will await the release of the WPIAL playoff pairings on Wednesday afternoon.
